    Hey guys,

I have a basic question....I searched and see that someone asked this in 2014 and got beat up pretty bad so I'm gona try to be careful here )

I'm building a fenderless hot rod and have a question concerning my frame build. The cab is not yet mounted on the frame. The placement I was going with set the bottom of the frame rail higher than the cab corners and lower rockers. If I have to go over a big speed bump I could take out my cab corners and lower section of my rocker skirts.

I'm inclined to raise the cab, actually lower my frame rails (my front end & rear end is not set yet) so my frame rails will protect my lower body work.

Are there any issues with doing this? A picture of my cab attached. That picture shows the cab frame rail 8" off the ground. I'd like to move it to move it to 5 1/2" which would be 1/2" below my cab corner ride height.

Thanks for reading and any input you may provide.

I don't see any problem with you setting your cab wherever you want it. You'll have more room between the cab floor and the ground if you bring it level with the frame rather than hanging below.

Personally I would just set up 4 jackstands with 4x4s or some square tubing and lay your frame and rockers on those. Then everything will be level and you'll ensure your body isn't hanging down past the frame. If you wanted to go slightly lower with the frame you could always add spacers under the the rockers when you set it up.

Thanks Dave.... I don't have a floor in the cab yet so it will also let me drop the floor and additional 2.5 or so inches. The cab is chopped 3.5"so I can use some extra foot well area. Thanks for taking the time to answer my post.

Are you keeping the frame stock?

No Dave.... I'm building my own frame. See pic of frame table and wood mock up. And you can see part of the frame peeking out under the cab in the first post picture. 2x4 3/16, stacked engine rail, 4" drop axle from Speedway and a ford 8.8 with 4 link out back

    Then make decisions.

Good advice. I don't have all of my components just yet and am putting the cart ahead of the horse... Arrg.

I'm a little jealous of your frame table. I was going to suggest z-ing the frame if you wanted it low, without dragging the body, but it looks like you got that part covered.

Thanks.....you can use it when I'm done! Yes...I've stacked my 4" tubing but incorperated a little length with the mating rails and a long angle.

Lead with the frame rails, not the body work.

It is not ideal to strike a speed bump, or high-center on anything, but the frame can handle it.

    Body panels, not so much.
