Hot Rods MASTER CYL. QUESTION FOR drum/drum brakes

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Art Center Dropout, Aug 15, 2021.

  1. I am using 56 Ford F -100 front brakes and 59 Ford rear brakes on my 32 Highboy. If some of you have something similar I wonder what master cyl. you are using. I like the idea of a dual M.C. for safety. Am looking at a 68 Ford cyl. but thought if someone was actually had experience ,it would help. Using a 65 SBC (abt. 300 hp) and muncie 4-speed. Not a lot of power, but enough.

Using a master cylinder that was made for a vehicle with the same size brakes as you're using, should work out OK. I think they used 11x2 brakes on both the donor vehicles, as well as the 68 ford pickup, so you should be all right.

Being a lighter car than what the brakes are from, you will probably have good stopping ability. You can adjust the master cylinder size, as well as pedal ratio, to get it just right.

I have the same setup as you. 56 F100 front and 57 ford rear. I have a cardone #10-1329 dual master under the floorboards. It works great

68 ish Ford truck. 4 wheel drums. That's what I use

  6. I have front wheel cyl. 1 1/8" dia. Haven't bought rear yet but believe 59 Ford is 7/8" dia.
68 Ford truck sounds right to me. Will modify 34 Ford. pedals to fit. Will have to look at ratio.

    I used a mustang with 7/8’s bore

  8. A 67 f100 was the last year for the narrow drums and had a dual MS.

  10. Honestly I dink know if the 68 up MS is different. All I know is my 67 had the 66 narrow brakes and my 68 didn’t.
    I used a 67 on my 63 f100. Worked out great

I've built 11 Model A Ford's for myself, all with 40 style juice brakes on the front, different rear axles, all with drum brakes. I've used the same master cylinder on all of them. No brake issues ever. And around $50 at the local parts house.

  12. Thanks to all that replied. I try to do the research first but eventually end up asking people who have done this before.
