This was going to be a full fender car but I am bobbing the fronts of the rear fenders and will be attempting to add front fenders fabricated from a 36 Ford spare tire ring I cut in half. I'm trying for a traditional look with the brakes so obviously the Discs gotta go. I have early Ford spindles on it. I know Pete and Jakes make a Lincoln style drum brake kit but I am wondering if anybody has any good advice on what else I should look at before I spend $1100 on that kit? The wheels are 5x4 1/2 or 5x4 3/4 so I can use either but I don't want to have to buy new wheels and tires. I like the way the car sits as far as rake. Just looking for a more traditional look to go with the theme of the car.
I'm also open to ideas if there is a way to keep the disc setup and just clean up the look a bit. I know there are finned caliper covers but don't know how it would all look. If it weren't for the way the rotors always rust around the edges I could almost live with it.
Unless you can find some good original hubs and drums to use with those repop Lincoln brakes; it will be hard to avoid spending that kind of money.
If you want to use those patterns you are stuck with discs. You could go with F1, or F 100 brakes. Lots cheaper than Lincoln. 53-56 are self energizing. These have the larger bolt pattern, but you might be able to redrill the hubs, and drums to the later pattern.
Talking F-1 and F-100; they are all self-energizing '48-'56; same as the Lincoln repops. F series hubs are easy to re-drill for a change in bolt pattern. Early Ford hub and drum patterns can be changed too; just a bit harder.
