Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by A32Flathead, Aug 13, 2006.

  1. Spent Saturday at Laguna Seca for the Pre-Historic race's...the week before the Monterey Historic Races....

The atmosphere was VERY laid back, and I managed to work my way into the pits for parking :D

Here's a few of the more interesting ones....I have a pile more to edit, so more to follow....

Very cool little Model A we found in the pits....

1938 Sparks Indy Car...ran from '38-'48 at Indy!

Maserati DOHC 6 was clean enough to eat off!

    Jaguar XK-SS :D:D:D

    Ferrari V-12 Carb's

And finally....please excuse the muscle cars.....

Pre historic? I'm betting on Alley Oop on the Bronto. Much more power than Fred and Barney in the footmobile.

Thanks for the pix, man. Very cool…

  4. OOp's....I really should know that, I got Derek Bell & Jackie Ickx' autographs while they were sitting in one a couple of years ago at Goodwood... I'm editing it now!

And it even says it on the side of the ****pit too.....

    D'oh!!

The shape of the Front Fenders was done that way because Ferrari didnt want to switch to Disc Brakes like Jaguar had done.

They had beautifull big finned Aluminum Drums with multiple leading shoes inside them.
Pure art, but hard to keep cool...
So they shaped the Bodywork that way to get plenty of air flowing over them. ( 1st pic )

The later Testa Rossa's didn't need that because they had Discs, so those had Front Fenders that were shaped differently( 2nd pic )

  12. It is now..... ;)

Its late, I'm tired, what can I tell you.... :D

  15. The previously mentioned chopper...I know, its a bike, but the engineering is superb..

The exhaust is also the rear swingarm!! It all pivots under the seat, and that shiny flex-pipe above takes care of the movement....

Its called the F131 Hellcat, by Confederate Motorcycles in Alabama...

OK, more old car pictures will follow....

    Any hudsons by chance?

Great pics so far! Keep 'em coming!

  17. I didn't see a single one, we wandered the pits for several hours & got 99% of the stuff that was 'unusual' or rare, and as Yorgatron always likes a Hudson piccie, I look for them, but didn't see any....

I'm usually wearing a cincinnati Reds hat and have a goatee, I'll keep an eye out for you.:)

  22. The Pre-Historics is a very low key "non spectator" event...usually a lot of guys dialing in the cars before the big show are there. It's a blast and always the weekend before the Historics. See you boys up there...stop by and see me in the Historic Trans Am Camaro #67. Heading up in a few hours!

  23. it is intersting that you should mention that this chrysler was haulin *** around the track.

'28 Chrysler ran model 72 4.3 litre straight 6's with "ricardo heads" cars at Lemans. Stutz finished 2nd (after blowing 3rd gear out) and Chrysler finished 3rd and 4th

    '29 Stutz finishes 5th Chrysler finshed 6rd and 7th (after 4 bentleys)

It was noted by the spectators at the time the chryslers were running stock exhausts and were very quiet. The chryslers ran stock bodies (but did not run splash aprons

On the whole that is a very potent piece of equipment.

  24. Gulf must have called a few of thier cars "Mirages" as they ran a collection of cut down GT-40's (reduced frontal area: done by narrowing the roofline) and those were called "Gulf Mirages"
