Was wanting to covert my 56 buick to a floor shift. Anything that will work? Old after market stuff? The dynaflow has a funky shift pattern. P N D L R Any help appreciated. Thanks! Steve//
You'll need one of the Ansen Posi-matics. At one time they made a floor shift conversion kit for the Buick. Might be hard to find. Try California Speed and Sport, Rocko and Cheaters, and keep checking ebay.
Buick used the Dynaflow through 1963 and floor shift was available in starting in 1962. The shifter linkage was different between the Riviera's and the other series. I think you should be able to use one from a '63 Wildcat, but you will have to something about the console.
Same pattern as the old cast iron Powerglides. There's a cheapy Mr. Gasket shifter that will work, but I would try making one out of the old Mustang/Pinto type floor shifters. Butch/56sedandelivery.
I am needing a floor mount shifter for my project...1963 Buick 401 with Dynaflow trans in a custom boxed ladder chassis. any insight, help suggestions would be great as i have spent the last three days combing the web and there is ONE 1963 Riveria shifter consol from a dude in canada that is rusty and does not have all of the parts!
Whatver you come up with, it would be a good idea to have a positive lockout for reverse. A good friend had a home made shifter for a dynaflow and it got in reverse going forward at around 80 mph. The transmission blew up taking his right leg off at the knee.
