I would like to know the differences between the square corner "Power Ram" M/T sbc and the round corner M/T sbc ???
I don't know what the difference would be in power, but the round corner one is a whole bunch ***ier.
446 hp using a cross ram manifold that supposedly isn't any good, as well as a Thumpr cam that gets panned around here any time they are mentioned.
Ha ha bigrat, I only own that ***y round corner and it's going on my 57 Chevy p/u, I don't remember what the asking price was on that power ram but I think it was around $1300 if I recollect correctly. That photo does show the balancing crossover runner between the two plenums that the other brands don't offer (although I thought the Weiand did).
I had this same polished Weiand crossram for years, and never used it. Took it to the local swap meet in January and put $450 on it, and didn't get any offers all day. At the end of the day the guy who had the booth behind me asked if I'd consider an offer. He offered $325 and I let him have it. Just didn't seem to be any interest at all other than him. As for balancing side to side. I'd simply connect the large vacuum hose on the base of each carb together. It's not the same as an open plenum tied together, but will help immensely in how well it runs on the street.
A friend in the hose industry once explained to me a rt. angle turn versus a curve cuts flow something like 30%. No reason to think fuel vapor would be any different. My GUESS is that's why M/T curved the ends of the runners in these x-rams. Now there are certain situations where the rt. angle is better or necessary but we're talking very old technology here, so again my guess is M/T didn't research it far enough (no reason to) before an overall better manifold came out by someone
