Hello! I have a distributor out of a 1956 354 Hemi. i am not sure if it was replaced by something else. I bought a new cap and rotor for it but it didn't fit. It was to small. The new cap was for a IBJ. The motor was in a 1956 2 ton Dodge Truck. The cap says Holley on it but not sure if it is a actual holley distributor. Anyone ever see one of these?

Thanks for any help. I need cap and rotor for this. 20210823_134909.jpg 20210820_231642.jpg 20210823_141249.jpg 20210823_142502.jpg

Does the distributor have a number on it ? Rock Auto shows several options for a distributor cap for a 1956 Dodge truck with a 354 in it. 1956 DODGE TRUCK 5.8L 354cid V8 Distributor Cap | RockAuto

They also show the points and some serious comparison might help there. 1956 DODGE TRUCK 5.8L 354cid V8 Ignition Breaker Points | RockAuto
It looks like your distributor takes the 4P 1000 style of points so that should narrow down what cap it takes. That would make it an IBB style.

The points are in opposite directions in the distributor be it IBB or IBJ. IBJ may be reverse rotation.

IBB distributors have the hold down screw behind the ground contact for the points.

You should be able to by the parts locally rather than having to order them. Napa can probably cross the part numbers from Rock auto. IBJ points_LI.jpg IBB points 4P1000__ra_p_LI.jpg

There is no number on this distributor. I have been looking at rock auto. I am wondering if the IBB has a bigger opening then the IBJ. The distributor cap that is.

  4. Wow,,,,,I’ve never even seen a Mopar distributor like that for a Hemi .
Where does it mount and what kind of drive does it take ?

It mounts in the back of engine. Behind the intake manifold.

  7. Lol,,,,,sorry .
I assumed it mounted in the back like normal then .
But I have never seen a Mopar distributor built like that ,,,,,not for a Hemi .
It’s super short and doesn’t have the normal Mopar distributor base .
What kind of drive attaches it to the cam and oil drive ?

  8. With the odd looking fittings on the distributor and considering it was off a 2-ton truck . . . could it have been something specifically designed to work with a governor?
    o_O

  9. Show us a picture of the 354 Hemi - most all v/8 Mopar distributors I've seen or own - should have a longer shaft and that looks like 6 cylinder flat head distributor.

  10. It appears to have an 8 lobe cam for the points.

  11. Where is the flange that mounts the distributor in the block?

  12. I’m with Claymart ,
It looks like something for use with a governor maybe ?
    Who knows .
Also,,,,the OP hasn’t been back since Tuesday .

The engine is taken apart right now because I am trying to figure out what size pistons I have. With them measuring at 3.9700 fun fun

  15. Bam bam,
I’m not sure but I believe the stock bore size is 3.94 on a 354 .
I will try to check and get back with you to be sure .

Tommy you are correct on the bore size of 3.94 on stock 354. Something is off on this engine. What year truck did you say it comes out of?

Bet it has been honed in the pass

  18. If the pistons mic 3.97,,,,sounds like it is already .030 over .
Any news on the distributor ?
