  1. The dig dish caps and SS trim seems odd

A local tri 5 Chevy is running a convertible look impala roof.
I’ve been trying to get a pic of it.

Timely thread for me as I was talking to a friend about his 62 SS that is likely not much better condition after sitting outside for the past 30-40 years. I was wondering what it might be worth since I about have him convinced to sell it. However, pretty sure it may be a little better condition and is also a 4-speed car.

Not that’s is beyond building, I’ve already rebuilt a 59 conv that no one locally would touch.
It just isn’t a bucket list car or much meat left on it money wise.

A friend in HS got a new 62 SS Honduras Maroon black interior 327 glide shift was on the column only the 4 speeds were on the floor. There are photos on the net showing this. There was a glove box between the buckets.
As I remember the 63 SS glide was on the floor.

  7. I’m ***uming the 283. Script valve covers so no decal. I was ***uming the 327 had the different valve cover without the script but we all know what that means. The air cleaner was off. I didn’t look for it but it had some stuff laying in the rear floor area.
Should have took a pic of the vin

Hard to see for sure in the front end photo but here is the 283 emblem, the 327 looks similar but has crossed flags.

And yes, you are correct about the 327 having different valve covers.

The AT cars had column shift. The 283 w/AT used the heavy cast iron glide, the 327 used the aluminum ones. Last year for the cast glide was 1962. The 348 was discontinued after 1961. The SS cars had the wheel covers with the spinners attached. The AT shifter in a console began in 1963. The "convertible" roof design was used through 1964. I have owned three of those cars over the years; one was an SS.
Looking at the price makes me glad I bought mine when I did. Good grief!

Here are a couple of '62's I sold about 3yrs. ago. One on the left was a dual quad 409", the one on the right
was a 327". Both 4 speeds. I got $30k for the 409" car and $18k for the 327" car. Neither car required any
body work, and ran excellent. 4 cars (2).JPG

^^^^ In my opinion the best Chevrolet ever. Period.

Nothing comes close to it, even the 61 and the 63 do not come close to the perfection that is the 1962 hardtop Impala. Nothing else is in the ball park.

If it's that rusty make sure to check the frame very closely. They are known to rust out too which will open another can of worms.

    Hagerty price tool values a '62 Impala SS 409/409HP in #2 condition at $118,680 and $88,560 for a #3

Same car with 300hp 327 comes out to $37,560 and $27,600 respectively.

The body looks rustier than a non-SS 64 Impala body I sold year before last for $600 sans engine and transmission. I know apples and oranges, but still, I see it way overpriced.

As far as doing metal work, I don’t care what you pay for the project. Buy the guy looking at it doesn’t love it as much as the current owner does

If the odometer says 28k, I'm wondering if it's really 128k...it looks pretty tired for a low mileage car.

if it wasn’t a bubble top ALL the chevy 2dr hardtops had the ‘ convertible lines’ especially in 63 and 64.

as to the mileage on that 62… add 100000 miles to that odometer. (still low mileage btw.) ****. maybe add 200000 miles. but i’m guessing add 100000 to that mileage on the odometer. at 200000+ that driver’s seat would be absolute trash.

  27. The owner would contradict that
It’s his grandmothers car that’s been parked for decades.

  29. I did purchase a 65 c10 that wrapped around a tree in 1975 from him.
    For $100, why not

IF i ever have another car from the sixties… a 61 bubble top chevy or pontiac would be my first choice. love the lines of it. i would prefer it in white with a red interior.

i have had numerous chevies from the sixties. 62,63,64,65,66,68,69. most all of them 2dht. and all V8s. too bad that i sold all of them back in the seventies. also had a couple 56 bel air hardtops. and a very rough 56 vette. and a 59 el camino.
