'getting to be too long between updates.
I've been pecking away at the little stuff, mostly clean and paint.
I did a quick repair on the steering wheel, looks fine from ten feet away..
I can pop it off and do it right later I guess.
plugged the end holes in the master cylinder and drilled and tapped the stock holes to accept banjos,
plumbed both brakes and clutch, bled and initial adjustment.
not a lot of picture taking though, so here's a short walk around video.

Walk around videos always show a lot of details that are missed in photo updates because you wouldn’t think to take a photo of a random bracket etc. chassis is looking great man

 

You have to be thinking 5 steps ahead to build this clean . Thanks for the video.

 

When this engine was to go in an A I put together the fuel lines from the carburetors to run to the firewall,
this go 'round it'll run through a glass bowl filter and forward more in the flavor of the stock J2 fuel lines, similar components just rearranged and with fewer bends.
'ran the steel lines by the buffing wheel and screwed 'em in place.
It'll run an electric fuel pump out back.

 

Those fuel lines are supper clean!!

Earlier I drilled and tapped the master cylinders to run the lines out the ends.
As said above I changed direction and plugged those holes and modified the stock holes to work with '57 Chevy banjo fittings.
Here I pulled the plug at the brake cylinder and screwed in a '40 Olds hydraulic stop light switch.
I have had good results with these switches in the past, the trick is to use the ones with screw type connections, avoid the bullet connectors.

Short video of first fire.
Minor water leak at right rear head gasket..
Plain water in it right now, should go away with proper mix and stop leak..
Gear oil leak at gasket between Buick case and Olds tailshaft housing,
should be an easy fix.
But ran it for about five minutes and it didn't blow up, so that's good.

Too many obligations needed attention.

Parking brake cables and linkage.
'62 Corvette cables, OEM at half the price of those ugly aftermarket cables,
misc hardware from the junk drawer and some left over scraps of steel.
It'll get cleaned up and dressed before paint.

Catch doesn't quite fit here,
being just a baby it had no fear,
it practically climbed into my hand.
I put it in a box and fed it until my grand daughter got home.

 

And then you made fricassee?

 

Granny woulda made a pie, but Elly Mae put a stop to that.

 

Raise it up right and have a new shop security attack squirrel!

 

Leash train it and tell people it's a micro miniature hunting dog.

More ideas to plaigerize. Thanks Paul, between your build and Marty Strode's I'm getting lots of help with mine. Others as well...

 

pulled the points distributor, couldn't get it to run right on just the battery.
'might run better with generator and full charge.
stuck a magneto in it's place,
one I had on the shelf for a while,
looks a bit crusty under the cap,
surface rust from trapped moisture no doubt,
but it snapped when turned so in it went.
runs much better,
enough to run in the cam,
varied rpm about 1500 to 2500 for twenty minutes or so.
guesstimated, no tach hooked up and didn't even look at the clock.

oh yeah,
fixed the minor leaks
it never got above 185
and it made no funny noises
other than a bit of popping at higher rpm,
ignition again I'm fairly certain.

all that can be sorted out..
