Just bought this jack at a swapmeet. It's called a lifetime jack, made by the coast mfg co. of Los Angeles. It's pretty cool looking. I couldn't find any info on google. Anyone know what type of vehicle it was used for? Thanks for any info.

JMO, but it doesn’t look like it has an automotive application to me.

  3. Might be Coast foundry and Manufacturing located in Pomona. They manufacture plumbing equipment and supplies. I don't think that jack is an automotive application. I don't know what it's for. It says Patent Pending, you could try doing a patent search by company name.Or try calling them. I've called a few companies trying to identify or get information about some old product they once manufactured. Sometimes you luck out and get the original owner and inventor on the first call. Those are great conversations. More often, if the company even exists anymore, it has evolved into something completely different and there is little if any historic information available or anyone who knows anything. and furthermore they seem to think you are some kind of lunatic bothering them with some stupid ********. It's a complete ****-shoot.

This jack was produced in the early '50s, poorly designed and usually doesn't work up to expectations. It leaks fluid (shop accidents) and is awkward and clumsy to use when you can actually get it to work. Although quite rare (thankfully), it is pretty goofy and has very little market value.:(

This is a hydraulic pump bumper jack. Was in my grandfathers 57 Pontiac trunk. Still works too. 20200511_111310.jpg

That small base doesn’t exactly inspire confidence, I’d be nervous using that.
Like @VANDENPLAS I would like to know how it works too.
