It's not the most traditional rod, and right now we just need to get it set up where we can get it road worthy. It's a 64 beetle with a 58 36hp motor and an oval front end. My dilema, the wiring is ****. I'm not very electrical savy but I know it's a 6 volt car that the po was using a 12volt battery in. I need to install and wire up a gas gauge and all the lights. I need the basics, headlights, blinkers, back up lights, driving lights and brake lights. Is there anyway I can use the 12 volt items that are in it? Or do I need to source out all 6 volt items? Also, how would I go about getting them all to work? Thanks for any and all help.
i think it should be wired just like anything else would be, try a search and see what you come up with for help with basic wiring. its realy preety simple im sure youll be able to 'get it' if you want to run everything 12 volt then yeah i guess you can keep that stuff thats already there and 12 volt. other wise if your going 6 it should all be 6 good luck tim
your major concern with using the 36hp engine is the generator stand;won't accept a 12 v gen. you can try to find an early porsche generator(same diameter as 6v vw), or find a rebuilder who will reboild your 6v w/12v windings, use a 12v regulator and you're good to go. any other questions, feel free to PM me, been doin' VW for @ 30 years.
