Please excuse me if I'm posting in the wrong section, I'm a little lost on this site being my first time on it but was refered to it by a friend saying if anyone could help it would be you guys.
My name is Rory Ward and i'm currently restoring Mickey Thompsons Challenger IV class 1 unlimited off road race car. It ran from early 1978 to mid 1980, if you like you can click on the link below and check out the build:
    http://www.race-dezert.com/forum/showthread.php/95506-**Mickey-Thompson-Challenger-IV-restoration**

I'm having a hard time locating a front Halibrand knock off hub for it. I have the rears but only the right front, looking for a Left front. The hub is called a "Dirt Champ" hub, a little bigger than the knock off's used on the sprint cars back in the day. The snout measures 2 5/8" on the outside of the threads and the knock offs are 3 spoke with 8 threads per inch. If anyone has one and is willing to part with it I would be very grateful.

If anyone has any idea's on who would be a good person to talk to about these parts, please send me their info or feel free to send them mine. Photo's attached to see what I'm talking about. Thank you.

Hi Rory: Did you try Ebay? I've been looking for a good Halibrand tri-bar knock off for some time & have been checking Ebay regularly for one and I see a lot of different hubs for sale there. I've seen the Champ name thrown about more than once. Just type in the key word "halibrand" & it'll bring up the stuff in that category. Hope this helps, but something tells me you've been there already. Good luck & if you ever run across a single knock-off, let me know. Thanks...Greg (P.S. Yes, there's a "wanted" section in the classifieds, so don't be surprised if someone reminds you of that, plus the fact that we don't discuss anything newer than '66. A touchy bunch, you know, but don't be offended.)

Fleetside66, yea, I've already been down the e-bay & Craigslist road and will continue to do so. Thanks for giving the new guy a couple pointers as to not look too much like an idiot.......I guess the "FNG" under my name says it all........LOL. Also, if I do run across a single knock off (after I get my 5.... :D ) you'll be the first to know, Thanks again.

Yes sir, 5 on 5.5 hubs. Parnelli Jones and Bill Stroppe started using them in off road racing in early 1970. Parnelli had them on the Big Oly Bronco and later on his Chevy Blazers.....true works of art back in those days. Those hubs then had a new life in the Off Road racing world as teams like Walker Evans, Mickey Thompson and Ivan Stewart ran those hubs till the late 70's.

Interesting, don't know much about off road stuff but 99.99% of open wheel stuff is going to be the standard 6 pin. I guess you could weld up a 6 pin hub and re-drill it, but don't know what you'd do for a pressure plate if you don't have one. Good luck.

Rootie, Sandy Cone @ Cone Industries in california reproduced the pressure plates and even have the Halibrand stamp on them. I know I can get a hub CNC'ed but I'd rather have the REAL thing. Here's a link to his site.... http://www.coneindustries.com/

I appreciate the info so far guys, thanks for trying to help out the new guy. I'm hoping someone out there will stumble across this thread that has a hub I can use.

Here's the pressure plates from Sandy Cone.....

The restoration is going well and I should get the frame back from powder coat this week.....hoping to start bolting up suspension within the next week or 2 and need a hub....badly. I've called the numbers given so far with no luck, anyone else out there possibly know anyone? Please email me if you could help a fellow racer out at:

I have no idea why the moderator deleted my post, said it was “off topic”. How can it be off topic if it was about the topic?!? Hahhaha, oh well.
I found a set from some random guy on line, had to have them machined to a 5 pin, 5 on 5.5 lug pattern by Sandy Cone at Cone industries.
The car is completely together now, runs and drives.....actually races. I’d post another picture of it but I’m afraid it would get deleted.....‍♂️

  18. The OT part is it is a 70s race car, not pre 65 like this board

True, the pre 65 part was put on a 70’s race car when the builder stripped parts off of his old pre 65 Indy cars and repurposed them on his 70’s race car. Splitting hairs a bit but I thought maybe your readers would be interested in what it was that Mickey Thompson was doing with these parts and what he put them on.
Anyways, i got some GREAT input from this forum, thanks to all that reached out, it was very much appreciated.
