I have a set of 33 commercial headlights that we had planned on using on the project A which came with the standard SS head light stands which bolt to the frame that I ***ume accept the 682's.
The commercials have a 5/8 stud and even after boring out the stand the head light will not index to the cup of the stand. Clearly I am missing something here. Do they require commercial stands? or am I missing an adapter to mate the two pieces?
Virgin here with these commercial lights but I do see a lot of them out there on highboys etc so there must be a solution. Appreciate some insight on this.

You may have to drill out the rivets that connect the cup to the headlight and then work the index slit another 1/4 " to the rear using a hacksaw blade and a square file, next reattach the cup to the headlight bucket with small screws to test fit, you may need to do some additional work.

This is how I did it using big commercial headlights on a Model A that wanted to point at the ground. HRP

Thanks for the info Danny. I had looked at that earlier in the day but thought there may be something I was missing regarding an adapter or something. I will tear these apart today and adjust the slot. Thanks again for the tip.

  4. If you bore out the headlight stand to accept a 5/8" bolt, why couldn't you use as little heat and bend the headlight stand back enough to suit your purpose ?

Nick, it is the placement of the stud in relationship to the light housing. So far forward that you can not get the light to set in the cup. Just have to make a mod to the unit so it fits into the cup first then adjust as needed for proper lighting.

I ended up opening up the bucket hole for the stud. It was round and now oval but it allows the stud and ball to seat properly. I also extended the travel for the adjustment to give me a bit more adjustment since the 31 sets lower. Hogged out the stands to 5\8 and presto.....ready to drive (well not really) but u get it I am sure.

Just ran across this problem/ solution thanks for the information. I grew up in Springfield Vt. and once managed Townshend Dam before moving to Alabama in 1971.

Just drove thru Springfield the other day on our way to Dartmouth Med. It has changed a lot since '71 I am sure.
