I'm gonna look at one of these this week - a '50 Buick Special. Are they reliable? How are they fuel-economy-wise? I realize it's an old car and only put out like 150hp, but if it gets less than 10mpg, I'm scared. Before you all post 'Use the Search Function', I already have...

    Hi Mate,
I have a 4.3 litre 1953 buick and here in the UK I am geting 18-20mpg taking it fairly easy, cruisin about 65mph.
I find it a lovely cruiser to be honest and you can tune them.
I am going to "twin carb" mine after christmas and opewn the headers up a little, already put electronics ignition and electronic fuel pump on with a 12v conversion.
    Good engines to be honest.

I can't tell you what kind of milage I get. I haven't fixed my Speedo/odometer or fuel gauge yet. I have heard from others who claim 14 mpg to 20 mpg though.

If its a two door, in good shape and a decent price.....you better jump on it.

I had a 1950 Buick straight eight back in the 60's. Had a three speed stick. I got around 18 MPG with it. It was a two door sedan Great car. Wish I still had it. Dan
