i have a 55 ford customline that i put power disk brakes on and still having trouble with a hard pedal about half way down it stops ok but the back brakes dont seam to work everything is new from front to back the booster seams to work i fell it in the pedal when i crank it up when i bleed the rear brakes i only get a dribble of fluid out front brakes get a good stream of fluid i have been dealing with this for over 3 yrs as i dont drive it much but i would like to get the brakes fixed like they should be
What master cylinder do you have? Did it come with a proportion valve? Are you using the stock original rear drum brakes?
Beermoney, If you can show pictures of the booster and master. If you can tell us how you plummed the brakes , front and rear. Did you use an inline proportion valve for the rear? Did you check vacuum, it needs 15 to 16 inches of vacuum at idle to operate the booster correctly.
sorry for not answering sooner i bought the kit from master power brakes yes it came with a proportion valve yes stock drums on rear
yes eveyting is new from front to back lines and yes i have a proportion valve everything is hooked up right from what the instructions from master power brakes i got 16#of vacuum at the booster i can feel it work but only front brakes are grabbing i bebch bleed the master cylinder no air in lines the brake pedal dont go all the way down to the floor when i bleed the brakes
Have you called Master? Their kit doesn’t appear the be cheap one like the listed on EBay. Do you use a person in the car or a vacuum pump? Do you have the engine running when you bleed the brakes? Does the fluid come out at each rear wheel with a strong squirt? To lock up my rears I had to do a lot of adjusting on my prop valve. My system required a residual valve also. I didn’t think it was needed but I wasn’t going to question the tech I bought kit from. One more thing since the rears are stock they need to start out adjusted as designed. A self adjusting is available for 11” Bendix brakes and you will need install a set to keep the fronts working correctly. Good luck Keep us informed.
yes i called master power brakes they dont have a clue what is wrong everthing is installed right they cant tell me what is wrong with the brakes im about to take everything back off and try again if it dont work this time im gonn send it all back
Paul may be right. You may need a master cylinder. I would check the port that feeds the rear brakes on the master cylinder and try bleeding it there, and see what pressure you have. If you have good pressure there then most likely you don't need a master. I would check the pressure going into the prop. valve and check it on the way out. Also check it at the rear hose. I checked master power brake and their boosters come with GM Masters. Ford plums their masters different than GM. Ford likes the front brakes to have the rear line on the master to the front brakes and the front port of the master to the rear brakes. GM is just the opposed. Also you said you installed an inline check valve, with the master on the fire wall there should be no reason for this. The check valve is there for bleed back, but with the master on the fire wall, fluid cannot go up hill. Hope this helps.
