Tommy you are correct on the cool old stlye louvers. The louver dies I use are the flat style. I hope to have the curved style made by this winter.

    Tommy,
You are right about the round top louvers being true hot rod style. The round top keeps to the pleasent curves of the panels, unlike flat tops that make big flat slabs messing up the look of the curved panels.
I do louvers with round tops only. Look much better.

As the story goes Ray Farner's (sp?) press with the old dies is in operation less than a mile from my house. He did round top louvers. Sadly I didn't get specifics when I asked a guy about his louvers and he told me the story and pointed in a general direction, then said "just a few blocks that way". I'm not worried - It will come around when I'm ready to have something punched.

My dies, use only the male die, the female side has a hard rubber plug. It dosen't leave that sharp press mark like some I've seen. I like um all......OLDBEET

If you want someone on the east coast doing early louvers, you need to get in touch with Doug Dwelly. He's out of Fairhaven, MA and has been doing louvers and custom work for a million years. He does one size louver that is 3/4" x 3", it's not flat but curved like the old style cl***ic California louver as he calls it. He usually charges $3 per louver.
His cell is 508-951-7795. Tell him Keith sent you.

Are louvers "punched" with some velocity or are they slowly pressed?

What kind of force is required?

Where do you get the dies?
