is anyone running a stock A tank with say a small block chev. and a mechanical fuel pump? does it work?
My friends doing that to a 29 p/u. Has not hit the street yet. So far in running it in his garage no probs.
Being the tank is above the carb a fuel shut off ain't a bad idea when parked. It's possiable to fill the engine and garage with gas by gravity flow if the carb has a issue. Other than that stock tanks have been used on rods with fuel pumps since rods were built.
I'm in the process of finishing up a tank to go under my '29 A RPU. I've had issues with the carb overflowing and most recently an seal (unrelated) between the pump and block blowing and filling the crankcase with fuel. I'm running a 2000cc Pinto motor and 4 speed. I've had no problems with the fuel tank, but after a recent wiring incident and meltdown DIRECTLY under my fuel tank, I decided to build a tank to go underneath.
i did it on a `29 pickup once , but soon went to a tank under the bed i would put a fuel shut off valve on the stock tank...Snyder's , and i'm sure Model A parts suppliers have a 6 or 12 volt electric fuel valve that you could wire to go on/off with your ignition switch
ok just confirming. yes i was going to put a shut off on it. its just like having a dirtbike in a way and not shutting off the fuel. the motor is 400sbc with 3 deuces.
I had a Model A with a Boss 302 in it and used the stock tank with a mechanical fuel pump. I didn't have any issues and didn't use a shut off valve
Can anyone tell me what kind of gas tank would work and fit under my 29 Ford model A Pickup truck? I would like it to fit so I can bring the filler neck and cap out on the wood floor.
