Does anyone have experience installing the primary parking brake cable in a 52 - 54 Ford sedan? I just purchased it recently, and the cable is missing. The Park Brake handle and the wheel at base of the handle are present.
I have a new cable, cable nut and cable clip from C & G.
I did not find anything on YouTube for 52 -56 Fords. JP Lutz

If you don't get a answer here try going over to the Ford barn site.

Thanks, I was just looking through there. I just joined and am trying to figure out all the things available on HAMB.

I'll try and get some photos of the set up in my '54 Ranch Wagon tomorrow.

You need to get your hands on a Motors manual. Amazon has the reprint available or buy one off EBay. 1961C89E-2C60-4B06-A57C-F99993B9E4F9.jpeg 02009DDF-ED24-4E48-97C3-37DDADFF1E0E.jpeg

If I recall from my 53 Victoria it is a straightforward affair.

Thanks for the photos. I have the Shop Manual. It came with the car. But it does not go into detail about replacing the Parking Brake cables.
I put the Driver side up on jack stands and went under to look at the existing situation, and it looks like your pics.
My cable broke under the dash. It appears that I have to remove the handle/bracket ***embly from the dash to see how the new cable end hooks in to the rod ; then remove the bracket on the firewall that holds the old cable. Is this where the "spring clip" snaps on to the cable? There is a slot in that bracket that appears to hold the spring clip.
Also...Is the New cable fed from the interior to the engine compartment or vice versa???
Underneath, I took a screwdriver and wiggled the rear cable clip until it popped off . Mine wasn't as rusted as yours. the rubber boot came off the cable housing end. I think I'll clip the old cable end at the equalizer bracket since mine is broken up front and this will get the nut out of the way. The cable housing was tough to move and I couldn't get it out of the frame bracket, but it is loose.
So I guess when I remove the firewall bracket, then I pull the spring clip.
Does the old cable drop out into the engine compartment, Or do I pull it up into the cabin???
I am wondering if I have to replace the entire park brake cable system back to the drums. maybe that is why it snapped under the dash.

Can't help with the replacement details but from what I say under my wagon it probably will be a PITA to do. Good luck.

  9. When I did it on my 53 a few years ago, I took the cable loose at the back to give me some slack, removed the handle ***embly and then the pulley, pushed the cable up into the handle for the cable end ball to clear, removed the housing clip at the bracket under the dash, and pulled the cable out from underneath the car. Reverse procedure to install the new one.

Thank you. . "51 MERC-CT" on Ford Barn also sent me some pics of the removed handle with the cable end position installed. All your help (4 of you) is very appr4eciated and will make this easier. JP Lutz
