    Hello,

We had been using our 1965 El Camino for our primary car for long road trips up the coast and into Northern California and down south into Baja California. One of the photos that has been in our photo files is the one showing the 1965 El Camino parked in front of the Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium in 1968. We had been going to different concerts all over So Cal and this one was supposed to be the best, so far. It was the first big concert for Jimi Hendrix.

We were so happy that we had met one of our friends at a party and he said he could get us into the concert on that particular day. The young guy was working with the concert promoter and was an old friend from surfing/ hot rods in Bixby Knolls. So, with word of a promise to get us into the concert, he said to just show up to the Shrine Auditorium on that day and he would find us out in front. It sounded too good to be true.

Not only that, the supporting cast was pretty good on their own rights, but added to the bill to make this one great. We knew the concert was going to be one of the best so far in the 60s and went out and bought an original poster from a shop in Long Beach. The guy selling asked if we would like some good center seat tickets for the concert that he was selling through his shop. It was tempting.

John Van Hamersveld was a well known So Cal artist in the mid to late 60s.

The day of the concert, we got dressed in our finest 60s clothes and drove up to Los Angeles to check out the auditorium… Just to be certain, we drove up earlier than expected and parked in the first row of the Shrine Auditorium parking lot. From there, we could see the people arriving and going inside with their tickets. We had none…

It wasn’t until the parking lot was full, the front doors were being shut and all of the concert goers were inside. We felt like idiots standing outside of the front doors. But, when all is doomed, up pops our friend and he says to follow him inside.

We followed him down the main aisle and he led us to our private seats in a balcony box to the side of the main stage. We could actually touch the performers on stage.

We felt like royalty as the balcony was empty except for two 20 something rock and roll fanatics. When we looked down into the audience, it was as if we had the best seats in the house. It was impressive and later, we thanked our friend immensely.

So, friends will be friends and a word is good, until it isn’t.

Screenshot_20210725-161940_Gallery.jpg Friday night we went to see Deke Dickerson with Tony Andreason from The Trashmen. Here is my car parked in front of the historic Silver Dome Ballroom, built in 1933. It was very special to see Deke playing along with Tony in this special venue. Driving the Blue 6-2 up there was just a cherry on top!

I really like this truck, and I would normally give it a like, however in this case I am having a hard time liking anything with a sign that says "Weenies" in it. LOL
