Hot Rods '63 Rambler Classic 550

Brooks didn’t post anything from our Tuesday night Rambler work yesterday. He didn’t think we got much accomplished to warrant pictures. I took some because everything we do is a few steps closer.
We got the carrier back in the rearend, ran some brake Lines and put new wheel cylinders and axle seals in.

 

A lot of progress today. Finally got the axles back so we put them in and put on a few tires from my Dad's '32. First time the Rambler rolled in around 8 months. we also took the mock up engine out of the engine bay. last time that'll be in there. We then cut out almost all of the wires in the engine bay. Then gave her a much needed pressure wash all over. really happy with the progress so far. still have a long way to go! Next thing, paint the engine bay.

Got a nice Hot Rod stance with those wheels and tires.

 

Primed and painted the engine bay. gonna get the old tires taken off the front wheels so we have the rambler on Dad's old set of wheels for his '32

 

Nice! That painted engine bay is gonna make all the difference in the world when you install the new engine.

 

Next work section hopefully this guy will be set in place.

 

Big day today! Got the trans hooked up to the 350 and put it in the rambler, hopefully for the last time.here are a bunch of pictures of it in there. Transmission mounted to frame.vvvv also got the last of the brake line done. Got the rubber hose attached
This was a big step in the build. I really do feel like it's almost done now, though I know there is still so much to do

Your welcome, this is all I want, a thank you. Tonight was a big night, getting the new Bullet set in place!

 

Got all of the exhaust in for good. really excited to hear what it sounds like when it's running. especially with the cutouts. and we put the radiator in for the last time. hopefully. just before I left, Dad tested out the horn and it sounded kinda cool, definitely old fashioned.

 

Not much has been lately but here's a few things.
We temporarily put the rambler mirror on to see what it looked like. we installed the radiator hoses tonight. Also got a radiator overflow tank. also worked on the throttle cable and connecting it to the weird rambler pedal thing. we also been trying to install a transmission dipstick for awhile now, on the second one now. It's been nothing but a pain in the ***. Hopefully the one we have now doesn't leak.

 

Car is looking great. Love the stance.

 

Regreased the wheel bearings and installed new seals. finally got all the wheels sandblasted and got the front wheels painted. Here is what the final product is going to look like. dad also painted the R in the mirror. It really stands out now, I love it. more stuff next week. Progress has been slow but at least stuff is getting done.

That painted red R on the mirror looks great ! That shine on the chrome on the mirror reflects the serious grease under the fingernails! True badges of progress!

Thanks! greasing up those wheel bearings and chipping off 50+ year old tar really gets my hands dirty.

 

Thanks, hopefully next week will be a bit of a bigger step. Want to reinstall the backseat, sound deaden the floor, jb weld the pinholes in the floor, and patch up the last piece of floor panel. And hopefully the front wheels will have tires mounted on them.

Got some of the sound deadening put on and the rear seat installed. My upholstery on the seat isn't perfect but I don't really care about being perfect. also got the El cheapo battery mounted. custom battery hold down strap made from the same metal Dad was using for the interior of his single seater

I had a 62 wagon when I was in school seats laid down to make a full bed, still got a scar on my behind from a mosquito pic in the ash tray! still cant remember how that happened.

 

Neat build, enjoying your progress. You may want to give the battery top hold down more clearance around the posts. Keep'em coming!

We did make a bit more room around the post than is pictured and I think I may rubber coat the thing too
