Here is another change of color to the Chevy, Flatz speed blue. I love it! Working on the inside now...also trying out my double shifters I just finished...crazy as hell to drive but I got it down now...one just has to be in neutral and the other can then go in to gear, I can do it fast now!
Please excuse my curiosity but ... WTF is up with that steerin' wheel? Is the column too long? BTW: I liked the red, I like the blue
I like the new paint, I bet it looks really bright in the sun. And sorry if its a dumb question but what are you talking about with the double shifter, you mean like each gear has its own lever, as in a drag car? Once again sorry if im the only one who didnt get that.
The steering wheel looks deep dish to me but it's sorta hard to tell... Anyway I also like both colors on the Chev...The blue serves as a safety blue which is a good thing...
Double shifters...only think I can think of are Lightning Rods, but I don't think that's it(there'd be 3 sticks not 2 AFAIK). So he took the steering wheel and reverse mounted it? Just for looks I guess, or to make sure he's impaled on the steering column in the smallest wreck (god forbid) Good thing he doesn't have a chrome bullet on the end of that column or it'd be a spear....did lowriders or like custom vans in the 70s mount chain wheels like this or am I just dreaming? Wow that red looked pretty nice, I'm not sure I'd have painted it but if you're tired of it you're tired of it...the blue looks good...I don't think I've seen a flat blue like that before..thanks for the pics!
Ok!!!!! For all those wheel questions.....that is the stock column but when I put the wheel on it stuck out too far towards my chest, so I reversed it to get a longer lean out for my arm! Im tall! That wheel probably wont stay, Im looking at getting a blue clear wheel if I can still get one? Anyhow the 3 speed shifter went from column to floor with my 235 to 250 upgrade so instead of using the stock spring and tab kit, I used 2 kits to make one mount. So 1st and rev. has a shift handle and then 2nd and 3rd has another. keep one in neutral and use the other then vise verse. Im shifting just as fast with this crazy looking set up as if I was using the stock floor shifter and pulling and pushing over to make the pins catch on each tabs to move them....I hope I explained that right? Anyhow....it looks cool and I get to have 2 bad ass shift knobs! Oh yeah scallops are on the way! and the color is Speed Blue from the company Kustom Flatz in Cali. it has a 30% luster and sprayed real well! Ill recomend it to anyone...it also has UV protection and comes in pearls and metalics too!
Not to hijack, but ... a quick question ... was ther not an article about modifying your column on 50chevy.com? I imagine that if you went through all that trouble to modify the column, taking an inch or two out of it wouldn't be too hard. Maybe I'm talking out of my ass here, but I'm really tall, and I can tell already the steering wheel is going to be an issue, and I don't know if reversing the wheel like that is the answer... Oh yeah - I dig the blue too. The red was nice, but that blue looks faster.
If you turn the steering wheel and the car turns in the direction it's supposed to whats the problem?Thinking out of the box is what makes hot rods individual. You guys related to Ralph Nader ?
I'm not sure the exact setup in CFish's car, but removing a couple inches out of the column with the stock steering setup would be a HUGE hassle. The column and steering box are one unit. Now if it's a custom setup like 50Chevy and myself are running, then yes, a couple inches wouldn't be hard...hehehe. CFish...that color's awesome! I agree, it looked good before too. What color scallops? Bryan
shortening that column could be accomplished in a couple of hours, without even removing it from the car. cut the jacket off, cut the steering shaft, remove desired length, clean and weld shaft using a sleeve turned on a lathe with a 3/4" bore to fit over the shaft, slide jacket back over shaft, shortened also, butt weld or if you really want, have an exhaust shop swage a piece of tube to slip over the column jacket. simple, and you won't have people asking why your steering wheel looks dumb.
Hey Cfish, Build it your way and forget everybody else. I think the wheel looks trippy and different and thats what building a Kustom is about. Besides, you asked about the color not the wheel........I like the blue, It gives it more of a Kustom look.
damn that blue is bright...I gotta say I liked the red, even though it's probably been done to death already...but at least it's not flat black...that blue will definately stand out though...
Like the blue,,,,what rearend set up is in your ride,I've got a 49 that I took out a leaf and put in some homemade 3 inch blocks and the only way I can get it as low as yours is sit'n is have my tool box, spare, both floor jacks, jack stands,60quart ice chest full of beer and three people in the back seat???
Thanks for the comment! The scallops Im thinking of doing in a white pearl with tiki heads airbrushed inside them all over using a kandy blue and silver to kind of give it a ghost feel....who knows just thinking at this point!
Heres some with the new Astros and a little bit lower with smaller tires now....the lakes now touch the ground.
nice blue.. when I put astros on my 49 I immediately went out and bought the best of WAR with "lowrider" on it
