Got a chance to get a 350 Olds rocket from a guy with a 350 ****** for $500.00.Claims it ran when pulled but smoked a little.Question is should I shell out the cash for a used motor or spend a little more for a crate or core motor?Rockets are getting hard to find and I'm not sure if I should wait too long to give this guy an answer. Here in Indiana any rocket is hard to find and for a junk yard pull they want $500.00.I know opinions are like ***holes...everybodies got one but I'm kinda stuck here.Dave
It depends...is your heart set on an Olds engine, or will any engine do? At the very least, pull one of the valve covers and see if it looks like someone puked in it.
A 350 isn't really a "rocket" although they are referred to as rockets. The last real Olds rocket engine was made in 1964, the newer ones like this 350 are pretty easy to find, I'd say $500 for one that smokes is way too much money. Around here a good running Olds 350 with ****** is a $250 setup at best, sometimes they can be had for a case of beer. I've got a '66 330 Olds with an automatic here i'll sell a lot cheaper if that's what you want.
Around here nobody wants to even talk about engines with carbs.Everything has been shredded that doesn't run fuel injection. If you do find an engine sitting around they want a friggin' **** pot full of cash for it!Oh,around here is Indianapolis.Crate motors are available but I don't want to spend $2500.00 on one.Guess I'm just cheap.Dave
hi dave, recently it seems like everyone wants to build bb olds.i see people that cant give away 350 motors.they are a great motor.probly better potential than a bb olds.i dont know why people dont want them.in any case make damn sure it is pre 77.in 77 they went to windowed mains,****py heads, the works. in fact for 500 smackers it should at least be pre 73.look for 5 or a 7 on the head.good luck, eric
