We just got in the 40 truck that Superbell used to prototype test their products , it has one of their first I beam axles, a disc brake kit & shock kit. The lowdown on the truck;it was purchased in 1970 by our friend Ed Belknap , from the original owner, a local gardener. sweet flathead original truck, Ed being a Hot Rodder could not leave well enough alone & took the truck to Blair's Speedshop where Pete Eastwood installed the Halibrand rear end, beautifully grafting in the Model A crossmember to the 40 ford rear crossmember. Jim Ewing took a fancy to the truck so when the time was right ed sold it to Jim who used it for said purpose as well as the shop truck. When Jim died Ed bought the truck back & pretty soon after sold it to friend & Superbell/Halibrand Guru Dave Enmark , who took it apart , put the sweet flathead in his 40 Sedan & stored the truck. Forward a few decades & Dave leaves us for the Hot Rod Shop in the Sky. Mary (Dave's Wife )sells the truck back to Ed in pieces. The truck goes full circle. Ed puts the rear back in fits a Howard Allen from Monrovia built Flathead & 5 speed . Plumbs it gets the exhaust done & brings it to us to complete. What an honor to work on such a cool truck for one of the coolest geezers I know Cheers Ed , Kona loves it too . Here are some quick snaps were too full to get a good photo, maybe next week .
Just a freshen up , Ed wants a driver so just a put together for us, which is cool. This is the truck they used in their catalog too.
Steve - It is nice to see the pickup going back together. It sat a very long time in Dave's driveway as he had so many projects to do. When I saw it last, it was in primer. Ed told me that he had it back so it is nice to see that he is "doing it up right". I am looking forward to see it when Ed has it on the road. Do a good job. Regards - Don Montgomery
The aim is to get it to the LA Roadsters Father's Day Show , time will tell !! It's great to see a Hot Rod go full circle back with the original builder. Are you out for the show Ryan ??
Hey Steve. good to see that the truck is making some progress. I sent Ed some parts before last years LA Roadster Show, said he couldn't wait for me to bring them down. Hope you get it done in time. I never rode in that truck but, did get to play with Ewing's other toys. Tell Ed I said hi and I hope to see him this year in Pomona. Dale
When enough pressure is applied it creates diamonds....!! Steve , you have a great team of "jewelers" over there..
I remember seeing the truck at Super Bell and at Daves, but never put the connection together. It's had quite a trip around the neighborhood and it's cool that's it's back home.
Thats one great truck with a history.Wonder how many different people have rode in it over the years...Thanks for the pics.
Well I'm in on a Saturday throwing things at the truck & found out it seems Dave Enmark took the rear drivers side fender with him (according to Mary lol ) so if anyone out there in HAMBland has a 40 Ford Pick up drivers side rear Fender Ed is in need of one . Here are a couple of full side photos. I'd better get back to threading the loom . Cheers
Aloha... small world to bump into you here. My son saw this truck yesterday.... at a private location... #1 axle is still under it.
