Hi, I’m at the stage of welding my spring perches in on my Ford 9” axle for my model a hot rod project. It’s going to be a spring over axle setup as standard with a reverse eye spring, the axle has be shortened to 57” mounting face to face . I know that from eye to eye a stock a is around 49” . But I’ve heard that when using a reverse eye shorter spring its a shorter distance at around 46”? Can anyone confirm or add to this. First pic is at 49” which is way to tight. second is around the 46” mark which looks correct to me. Thanks!
is your reverse eye spring for a stock axle? or is it a narrowed spring? with a spring over set up its especially critical to get your shackle angles right for good handling.
After some research I’m guessing I need a a narrow rear spring so I can mount the perches at 46 1/2” centres . The posie one from speedway looks the best option. I guess the one I have is for a stock axle but I’ll find that out.
I wouldn't contemplate welding up the mounts without having the spring and shackles in hand to mock it all up first. It's too easy to get things wrong without all the parts there for mock up.
