talked to hooley today and he went 234 mph. today and is in impound for tomorrow morning.s run to back it up . all he needs is over 231 ...we had about 6 runs over 200 with the spin at about 225 mph at the 2 1/4 mark with a previous best of 227.8 sunday . we had a great time with all the folks that helped on the car and came by to say hi, had to fly home last night but am in touch .... stay tuned
The gentleman that races this Stude...Hambers & RRT member pit for him. Had a near spin the other day at over 200 MPH (270 degrees and a couple half circles). Got to see a great video from on board his car while it happened (Thanks Jim!) You'd think he'd be cleaning his pants but I heard the reply was "what a rush!"
I went out with him and did the sumner mountain adventure and then hung out in blanding with sum the next day looking at his lakes project and working on hooleys stude before we set off for the salt, rode with charley chops from moab to the salt in his 40 chev chopped convert and then 5 great days on the salt working on the stude what a hoot. saw tex smith two days for breakfast at mcdonalds etc just a really *****in time...
Don't you love it when you click the thumb...and the pic is the same size? Car looks bad *** through my magnifying gl***. Congrats on getting halfway over the top!
Good news ... 234 mph ! I wonder what the data recorder system has on it for open throttle percentage
as a matter of fact is had 54 percent throttle at 6800 rpms... I helped monitor and tune the fuel system for 5 days on it ... he has a lot of motor left if it can hook up
Farm out Sam!!! We wuz all pullin' for him yesterday at lunch. Looking forward to the stories on Friday.
Hey Sam Scott and I heard yesterday too. 234mph with a 236 exit speed, the car has definatly got it in it. Should hear about the backup run shortly. For those requesting pics here you go.
well as we all know by now he set the new record at 236.8 with a 241 exit speed in the back up run, got the red hat and name in the books, job well done and many thanks to all who helped us get it done..........
Thanks to everyone who helped and encouraged us. As a side note, I had Hooley sign and date the shirt that he wore on his record run and we intend to sell it and one of my crew chief shirts at the HAMB Drags silent auction. John
Congrats on the record! I was looking at the pics and noticed Hooley is using a plain helmet. I am a custom helmet painter and would love to comp him a paint job as a small donation to the cause. We have never done a helmet for anyone that runs on the salt. I paint helmets for Kasey Kayne, Doug Herbert Warren and Kurt Johnson and many professionals all over the country. We have no free helmet program for any of our big name drivers because we know they can afford it but we know what kind of money is NOT in land speed trials. I will give him one of our 650 paint jobs for free If he would like one. I would love to do it on behalf of the HAMB and use there logo in the design very small. Contact me if you think we could line this up. Sorry I meant for this to be a PM
