Can I fit a 331,354,392 hemi in a 33-34 ford 5 window and still use the hood? I’m using the original ch***is. What mods would I have to do?
Every one I've seen without a severe engine setback either had no hood sides or sheet metal "bubbles" (or "blisters") added to the hood sides. Check out a few pictures on this (very) old thread. A lot of the pictures are no longer around, but you'll get the idea. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/hemi-with-hood-sides.321165/page-2
My 392 is setback 11 inches to clear the blower drive and electric fan and I would need blisters on the hood...
I have the Linderer Hemi coupe built in 1958, in Boise Idaho. It still retains the 1957 300 C 392 2x4 Hemi engine, transmission and rear axle! I can send pictures from that era. With hood blisters, fender cuts and firewall etc. it’s a Beautiful 3 Window coupe! Period correct hot-rod. It still retains the 1958 Maroon T-Bird or Lincoln paint. (801)-643-0128 Thanks
Blisters are cool and well worth the price of admission and period correct as there seems to have been a need for some hood mods to accommodate the behemoths... I've seen some just pleasingly trimmed with the valve cover peeking out proudly...
Coupe sat for 20-22 years in storage. The father updated a few things in 1984-86 era. Front disc brakes, wire wheels, early Sanderson Hemi headers. Then p***ed away! As you can see how dusty & dirty the car was from sitting! I had it running in 6 days, driving on the 9th day! Very smooth riding car, with the elephant sitting up front. It’s a stock frame, no boxing plates, stock radiator which keeps it cool in summertime as long as you drive it over 40-50 Mph, keep some air flowing. No Arc welding, No Mig, no Tig just Oxy/Acetylene welds. Crazy Old Coupe, I love it! The only down side is buying 112 + octane fuel so she’ll run an not hurt the Hemi, no Hardened seats an guides etc. she’s a kick in the *** to drive.
I put a little red ram hemi in mine fit real nice but only 241 ci. Love the little maroon job of CR newton
Don't forget that the 331 and 354 have a shorter deck than the 392. Not by much, but it sets the cylinder heads a little closer in. Every little counts.

"Jerry installed a monster of a completely chromed Firedome Hemi engine from a 1953 DeSoto. The DeSoto engine had been bored to 276 Cu, In. and fit with a 4-carb Weiand manifold, an Iskenderian camshaft, Mallory ignition and large valves and ports. A Cragar adaptor hooked the engine to a Ford transmission." Credit to Photographer, Owner
