If you can't find inspiration while at the kitchen table then what do you have? Take a look at these pressed aluminum chairs - they would look great in a modified and actually might be comfortable too!!! Pressed Aluminum chair
Seen lots of cars with kitchen chairs in 'em over the years, maybe not the best bet but it beats the hell out of a bucket.
If I had to choose them over sitting on pillow, then yes. But putting them in a car to be cool, No! -Jason
i kinda like it..dont like the cutout but the rest is kool..might have to shortin the legs a bit though
That's one of those if you didn't know what it was you'd think it was cool to the bone. Take the legs off and post hey look at the cool seats I just made with my handy dandy little whatchamacalit tool. Everyone will be all over it. I'm probably not going to run them myself any time soon but I can imagine a pair in an old coupe, maybe a little tarnished and with a pin stripe or two. Shazaaam.
I think that a media blast to remove the super shine would be the best way about it. But they have a nice rolled edge and a good shape. I would have to say that the bean shape is not the best in the cutout. At least when mounted you would not have to worry about you seat belt rubbing through cause they have a lower profile.
For $249 bucks you could get something that won't seer your *** to the seat like a steak on a grill. Polished aluminum can get warm!
The price is way to high, it couldn't cost more than $20 to make that chair. It doesn't look too bad though, however, never in my rod. Something about bone to metal that doesn't do it for me, not to mention the heat. Another thing...didn't the old bomber seats have cushions? I don't think they flew 12-16 hour missions sitting on bare metal in cold air at 20,000 ft or more.
I don't understand your distain? With the bikes that roll out of your shop you seem to have an artistic eye. Why are you so aginst taking influences from your environment. The point of the post was not to turn things into "Home Depot" rodding, where you pulled that from is beyond me. It also was not to propose the use of $200+ dining chairs but to show that everyday objects can be used for inspiration. If I happened to beat this shape out of a panel with by bare hands would it have been different? Sure, but I didn't!
I was down at Northern tool the other day and they have some decent riding lawnmower seats that have good padding, and about the size of bomber seats.. Looks like decent back support and they have an area under them to mount them..
That cutout could bite you the wrong way in an accident. Other than that, I like the looks -- of course those spindly legs would have to go away...
how about a little common sense here. Of course the legs would have to go. Same with the shine. But the concept is acceptable. As for the price, well, if you can't afford it, don't buy it. Don't ***** about it. As far as the ride goes, it wouldn't be much different than some of the so-called ratrods I've seen. Driver sitting on a 3/4" plywood floor with his back jammed up against the steel back of the body and his knees up somewhere around his ears. Heard him say he can go 700 miles in that position and it's comfortable. Hell if he had this seat he could probably stretch that into 1700 miles. And it'd look a hell of alot better than the plywood.
OK, I couldn't stand it. I went by the store here in Houston to get a lookie lookie. they are CAST aluminum, with a crummy wavy polish. about 3/16 to 1/4 inch thick, with bosses for bolting the legs cast into the underside. comfy, but price doesnt include a pad and anything that heavy would definitely hold the heat.
