Hey guys... Came across this ad in a 1959 Motor Trend Magazine. Does anybody still make anything like this? Were they safe? Anybody familiar with these? Did it work?
I never heard of that but sure would have liked to have it when the MC failed on my 51 Ford as I entered a busy intersection, lol.
Not entirely certain but I believe this device split the front brakes from the rear brakes and used pressure balance to actuate. There was a sliding valve that stayed in the middle as long as there was equal pressure on both ends of the valve. If one side lost pressure on brake application the valve would move from the high pressure side and block the low pressure side (leaking side) and all pressure would then go to the side that could make pressure (front or rear) to apply the functional brakes. Yes, dual master cylinders did away for the need of this but they did use something much like this. It was in between the two halves in the brake distribution block and when the valve slid to one side or the other it would trigger a switch that would turn on the brake light on the dash if there was a pressure failure. Was a ***** to re-center this valve when bleeding the brakes on late 60's early 70's cars so the light would go out. .
