My son put “peep” 4” on his 40 Chevrolet with the right side convex and very happy. Started with 3” then bought new heads. Got them from a low rider supply dealer. He put a touch of RTV on all the threads.
I use a pair that are secured to the door frame by two small allen head screws. Fully adjustable. Here is a picture of them on my '46 coupe as well as my '54 truck.
I have a pair do So Cal swan mirrors on my ‘37 sedan. https://www.est1946.com/so-calswanneckoutsidemirror.aspx I like how they look. In actual use, they’re not great, but it’s hard to see how anything else would be better without being huge and ugly. The way the body narrows to the front makes it difficult to get enough mirror and enough distance to see around the rear of the car.
This is what I have on mine. I think they are stock units for the '38. I should know but I bought it with these mirrors attached.
Just put some Billet Specialties on my avatar. Way too expensive but they really work compared to the typical swan necks that need convex spot mirrors to see anything.
I do not think they are stock GM mirrors. They appear to be accessory ‘swan neck’ mirrors. I have a set, new in the box, that look identical. Brand/supplier name escapes me at the moment, and I am traveling for several days and do not have immediate access to answer that question. But they look nice and solve the problem of being outboard of the door far enough to provide a good view. I also agree with other’s comments about the Hagan mirrors. Ray
Mirrors that clamp the edge of the doors on these old Chevys rarely clear the drip rail when you close the doors. If you've got good paint they'll end up chipping it when they hit while closing your doors. I use the clamp style, but I toss the clamp assembly away, and get a longer button head allen screw to attach them to my doors. It requires drilling a hole in the door lip, but it's a much nicer, permanent mounting, and wont hit the body when closed. I still use the rubber piece under the mirror, to protect the paint. I mount mine between the wing window and door glass, as I see it better, and it wont interfere with wing window opening. I use the dogleg arm style on both of my cars.
I put the swan necks on my 41 p/u, it's the same shape as your coupe, I did make a wedge for the passenger mirror to be able to see out of it.
These are the mirrors going on my 41 PU. Hagan convex mirrors. They appear to be clamp ons but they are actually bolt ons. I drilled 2 small holes in the tops of the doors to mount them. Objects in rearview mirror may seem closer than they appear
Got these off Amazon a few years ago. They are just the right size and length to see. They were priced cheap, like half the price of the peep mirrors I had bought years before them. I could never get the peeps adjusted so I could use the.
These are exactly what I'm looking for, to use on a '40 Chev. Your car looks like a '38, can you see past the B pillar with these? What make are they? Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks. Edit: Looks like a peep mirror mounted to the door skin instead of clamped to the edge-??
