you need to reread, I bought it from a barn its not in a barn at present its hanging from the roof of a my pops shop (I got neighborhood restrictions....the whole gated community thing....sucks really) as a matter of fact hanging right next to it is a original MG TD, right under that is an original 63 numbers matching split window vette....all basket cases awaiting the wrench It was also 11 years ago, things wernt what they are worth now, quite the contrary, your from the southwest, you should know what prices were 10+ years ago, they wernt squat compaired to what they are now.... no one ever said I didnt know what it was, I believe I said actually what I should have said was I had no idea of what it WOULD BE WORTH when I bought it. It wasnt worth much when I did buy it....the original intention back then was to turn it into a altered....glad I didnt have the chance to do that.... yeah I liked it....you dont? that vintage tin was a dime a dozen where I was from back then, heck I know a few guys that hauled a bunch of old tin out of the mesa for free....so yes I have a $50 32. Will I ever find one again....I believe that the chances I win the lotto are better....So in short, piss off asshat
picked up my running driving very solid 51 for $3500. new interior, lots of new parts. old guy jsut got bored. i was so happy i found one in this shape i didnt care what the guy wanted for it 10 minutes after forking over the greenbacks
Now that's a deal right there! My guess is, your lips were flapping in the wind on the way home, due to the huge grin you must of had on your face. That's one of my favorite cars, congradulations on your purchase.
Hard to compare a $200 car from even 10 years ago to one now. $200 isn't much more than scrap on a 2-ton car. I have a buddy who was cleaning out a junkyard and buying 55-56-57 Chevys for $5 and $10 - in 1985. Today it's $200-$500 to even touch cars out of a junkyard. And climbing. I just bought two rotty pieces of crap for $100 (total) simply because even if I never sell a part off either one, I can crush 'em and have at least three times my money. Hopefully the Olds has C heads on the motor - I'm going to buy a '70 Chevy truck for the same reason - at $300, it's worth the same wether I ever haul a car on it, or not. I paid $200 for my '50 Chevy, and the Model A was started around a frame a guy gave to me. It came with a decent hood, I see guys trying to get $100 or more for hoods not as nice as this one.
$800 for the '55 F-100 $5 grand for the Model A....kinda high but it was in GREAT running condition. dont even want to talk about how much I have into it now. Damn flatheads and quickies arnt cheap! ..........
I'll match your $1800 and raise you another 10 grand, and that was just to buy it into Australia. At the paint shop now and no, I'm not going to discuss what it owes me...............I think my wife's a lurker
Agreed, thats what I was trying to say but you said it better.... I actually havent bought any new tin as of late, my goal is to get what I got done then look for another....use em as a retirement investment of sorts, needless to say I wont be selling any of mine for many years, especially for what I got in em....the deals are still out there, seems that the deals in the more depressed areas of the southwest are more prevalent than those of the east and south....plus they got no rust, the tin in the west is just insane closely followed by that in the south....
the 37' was free, a wedding gift from my parents. they bought it as a wedding gift to themselves the year they got married and this year i got it after i got married. on the same date as my parents i might add.
'46 Ford Tudor, minus engine/trans and front seat, no rust w/title, $1000 10 years ago. '52 Ford 4dr, rusty, ran, but not driveable, w/title $300 last year 26/27 T RPU cab $100(I think, coulda been $200), 2 years ago, no title.
$250 for my Model A PU cab a year and a half ago. Pretty rough but came w/ a new wood kit. I'm into it @ $5500 or so now. Current pic is my Avatar (still not driving though). FEB. 2005
Did a labor trade for my '40 Plymouth. A guy I did some work for owed me about $2,500, and I took the car in trade. The car's probably not worth quite that much, but I may not have otherwise ever gotten paid on the job, so I still feel pretty good about the deal. The car has lots of surface rust, but it really solid and complete except for some small trim parts, all of which I've since located. Now I just need to find the time to work on it!!
Damn. I think I am into the wrong business. I paid $9,000 for my 59 Impala convertible. Had to sell a 59 Impala coupe, a 67 Corvair convertible and a 71SWB 1/2 ton Chevy truck to get it. Shortly after that I was thinking "Damn I got ripped off". This was in 1995. Travis
i paid 700 for my roller 49 fleetline no rust 350 for a all orig complete non running 53 chieftian 3200 for a running 57 chieftian then after a tune up, lowering and paint i turned around and sold it for 5000
Last week I bought a 1964 Corvair Monza sedan for $300. Sitting in a garage since 1973. It was straight and mostly rust-free. Just washed it tonight and only found a light crease in the roof I had missed before. Interior has bucket seats, factory seat belts, and a perfect headliner. Floor pan is excellent. I assume the engine will need a thorough going-through, brakes, too, and who-knows-what else. I'm happy!
RAT ROD. 1931 Ford 5 window rumbleseat coupe. It runs great .It has a 302 4 bbl, 4spd and 9 " ford rear, trailing link rear, straight axle front end and fuel cell. all mounted on a frame and capped with some ugly bumpers. Oh! and an asskicken stereo to boot. I found it in the newspapar for only $2,500. SCORE!
$800.00 1954 chevy truck $450.00 1968 plymouth satellite $400.00 and horse trading 1946 Ford 2 door sedan Free 1953 Chevy Truck
Back when I was in high school, I bought a running/driving '50 Dodge for $15.00. Coulda bought a NICE 23,000 mile '65 Vette for $2500. Those days are gone. Now I'm in my $100 mode. I paid $100 for a '23 'T' Touring, did I say ROUGH??? And another $100 for a '36 Ford Coupe that was ditch fill, I did pull it out of a ditch, no fenders or frame. $100 for a rolling '55 Chevy drag car with radius'd wheelwells. All this has been over the last couple of summers. I've located a '35 Ford pickup bed still mounted to the back half of the frame, actually made into a trailer, again for one hundred buckaroos. I need to move on it though. J
I paid $1200 for a solid 28 A tudor and frame, the wood is in awsome shape too $350 for a 50 merc 1ton with a rebuilt 255 flatty. (my dad wanted the truck i wanted the engine so we split the cost)
My first car was a 59 chevy 2 dr post. 283 with a glide. My dads boss paid us $25.00 to haul off. His ex son-in-law ran off to cali. and left it. Car had a bad fuel pump. I drove it for 4 years. 1967. I bought a 50 canadian 2 door merc last year out of a storage lot for $200.00. perfect floors, trunk but needed rockers. It was an old mild custom. Had lots of lead work on it.Last year I bought a 59 buick 2dr hdtp white 56,000 miles and a locked up motor for $1200. TP
