Building a souped Riley powered B engine for my 30 pickup. Seen many of these engines painted Red, which variety is everybody using ? I've seen different ford reds over the years

I even saw it listed in a parts catalog a few years ago but can't find it now.

That's the color I used on 2 motors so far... Used the por15 engine paint... The MG maroon starts off a bit more red, once it cures it darkens up a bit more...

Dang that looks good. One hears about a "maroon" engine and starts to wonder but that is great.

  6. Maroon moves me. Nice color for an engine block.

I know you guys like your flathead powered rods but to me that sounds like an old tractor. The only thing missing is the occasional ting from the rain cap.
It's funny how a sound can be music to one person and something that needs to be fixed to another.

One of my buddies painted every engine he assembled that horrid Chevy light blue and I think he saw it as his trademark. I didn't like that and I don't like engines painted black because they always look dirty and greasy and especially when they aren't detailed on a regular basis. I'm going to paint the 292 going in my 48 as close a gray as an original 48 Chevy truck engine would have had from the factory just so it will look like a stock six with a lot of finned aluminum trinkets on it to those who can't tell one Chevy six from another.

I love the ting of a rain cap in the morning.

I did my SBF in late model Ford truck and van gray. As much as I love Ford blue engines, I didn't feel it was appropriate in my 47 Lincoln since Ford didn't use it until later. The gray just looks more 40's to me.

I like the VHT, "Cast Iron". It's a light metallic medium grey. A decent match to actual, clean cast iron.
    Great color.

Maroon offers a deep rich color & contrast to: polished AL, Nickel, Chrome.

Is that like a very yellowy lime green? :D

While we're on British engine colours, how about MOWOG green, or "British Standard Middle Bronze Green"?

  21. I thought A and B engines were green not red.

One of my other favorites... Here is a SBC in my old 53 I did in that color... It came back out to paint the frame black when I was done fabbing up there. Had great definition etc... 53-6.jpg

Anyone ever paint the engine the same color as the body?

I like that cast iron color too. When I got my 300 Ford inline 6 block back from the machine shop, it was painted that cast iron grey, with a bit of gloss to it. Instead of going Ford blue like everyone else does, I left it the grey color. I painted the sheet metal black.
I'll tell ya what I DON'T like, as it just looks "un-detailed"....is putting an engine completely together, and painting it as an assembly....bolts and all. To some, it doesn't matter. I reckon it's just a preference thing. I just like to paint the individual components, and putting it all together with clean hardware.

There's one that's same as body color, or close enough. That turned out well.
Uggghhhhhh...... I was thinking more like the example above
