I'm sort of tossing around the idea of leaving this in bare metal rather than painting and just clear coating it.
My Dad had a '61 Biscayne 4 door when I was a little kid. Same color, was a 6 cylinder three-on-the-tree car. Being a Maine car, it had a lot of rust by the late 1960's.. I mostly remember the plywood floorboards he made so I wouldn't fall through! Your project is really cool, can't wait to see how it turns out.
Oh, please don't do that! I know you will do what pleases you but.........I've seen this done a lot and I personally think it would look better in whatever patina Mother Nature applies moving forward. (Gawd I normally hate that term but thought it fit here). Here's a thought, if you dont want to paint it (color) ask @moose if he would photoshop it in a couple shades of primer, priming it would be reasonably inexpensive to do. By the way, I'm really digging how it's turning out.
Yeah, you're probably right. I've been thinking about the original color with a black interior; will probably stick with that. Thanks for checking it out!
More often than not, the fake stuff is way overdone and easily spotted. A little story on the clear coating issue, some years back my wife and I went for a drive in the country and happened on an old farm house with two nice, original looking early 50's Chevy trucks for sale in the yard, I got out first and was half way to them when I saw that they both had been clear coated, stopping me in my tracks, I yelled at my wife to not even bother getting out, I think this is what finally disgusted me on it.
falconvan, never spoil a good mind, old saying, I vote you stay with your original plan. I enjoy your videos.
3 door! wow wicked idea...cruise the strip looking cool on driver's side...pick up the kids from school on p***. side...i'll double dog dare ya to paint one side black with 5 spokes and the other original paint with caps! it'd be like owning 2 cars in one!
For some reason that last video upload failed; I don’t know if my phone is doing something goofy or it’s the video itself. I’m heading to the country for the weekend so I’ll have to check into it Monday.
Its pretty cool watching this all come together, I would have left it a 4 door, but there is no real challenge in that, so I totally appreciate the efforts and skills displayed in these cool videos ! Thanks for sharing your talents !
Those old 292 Chevy and 300 Ford sixes were no joke! They had some serious pulling torque and would just about run forever.
Anything after '48 is not a 'hot rod'. Ever. It can be finished into a mul***ude of categories. Drag car. Mild custom. Low rider, ect.
