    Can I be your friend?

  3. I've got a '57 292 sitting on a stand, not sure why. Sold the car it was going to go in. I still kinda like the idea of dressing it up a bit.

Still have my '57 312 'Bird Y, gifted to me by my bud Lenny. My orig. 'Bird valve covers were 'lifted' by some a$$hole, probably just to sell...I have the '56 312 intake, single Holley. Thief that got the valve covers also took the Edelbrock three 2 intake, w/orig. 97s...
I also have my '54 239 original mill from my '54 Ford Coupe, that now has a fresh 406 FE. Wheee!

I am by no means hoarding any y-block stuff, but between my son and I, we have two 292’s in drivers and a 56 312 waiting on a rebuild to replace the 292 in my 56.

I could . I hate LS engine more. I have all the stuff to do a 302, which I bought because someone is LS swapping another poor 59 . If the 312 runs, and I hope it does,I'll run it. But 20 years of bad storage doesn't bode well. It's a cost point thing. I have everything to do a Chevy small block, but, a Chevy in a Ford isn't right, and not worth considering. I have had nothing but bad luck with Y blocks, and prefer any other Ford engine, but the keep falling in my lap. I have had multiple tri powers, valve covers, distributors, and manifolds p*** through my hands, and not one decent Y block to run them on. It is a boat anchor to me, but I would walk before an LS swap. Maybe the wrong post to say I hate the Y block, but the Irony of finding so many cool parts over the years is striking.

Is it hoarding if you use them?. 1 for the hot rod and one in my 57 Tbird which has 2 4barrel original converted to twin throttle body fuel injection. I do keep some spares maybe 6 sets of heads, a 292 crank, 312 crank, manifolds, intakes and a spare long block 292. Maybe just enough “spares”. MIKE

Late last year I picked up a 64 truck 292 to get the distributor and PCV system but since it has a truck timing chain cover and a rear sump oil pan it might get built and installed in a 40 ford if I ever find one I can afford.

Looks like a box to contain a carb for a supercharger application.

Tim McMaster is right down the road-so to speak (well 3 hrs down I-5). I am driving down on thursday to drop off my 312 for him to fix up. I can't wait to get it back so I can stuff it and run it.

Lots of cool stuff here. I'm just starting my hoarding, picked up a standard bore 1957 T-Bird 312 Special E code a couple years ago that spins freely. I hope $300 wasn't too much too pay.

It will be too much if you dis***emble the engine and check for cracks in the main bearing webs and discover that it’s cracked which is common to the 312 blocks.

However if you end up with a useable 312 crank and usable ECZ- G heads then you can find a good 292 block and go from there.

Ran across 2 pairs of NFS ( not for sale) 471 heads. 292 truck heads - low compression - not factory authorized but can be used with superchargers. Easier to find than EDB-D heads.

I think those heads with screw in studs are SBF heads. Y- blocks have rocker shafts.

Pretty hard to hoard Y block parts when you don’t even know what they look like. :D
