Here is my 34 four door chev, not sure what model it is, it’s got the camel hump on the back. As I’m going through this thread I’m learning what to do for converting to steel. Just hung up on where to start or how to hang doors. Any pointers?

you need to start by getting the frame straight, and the body squared up and mounted to the frame evenly and securely

 

Ya I’d like to find a sill to put down and put the body on it nicely and square it up

I built a 31 4dr using 1"x4" tubing to replace the sill wood. once I got it bolted to the chassis I squared the body on the new steels and built up from there. I don't remember shrinking any thing, all the new door "posts" were cut to shape with the plasma cutter and welded together to form them.

 

Thanks for the tips! I’d preferably rather have steel at least for the sill. But having a base to start from is good so building the steel up from that wouldn’t be too bad. Very happy to have got myself a plasma recently. No good ol cutting torch for those clean cuts lol

no photos of the 31. but I did use a bunch of 1" square tube through out the car. start with the making sure the frame is solid, straight and square and build up from there.

 

I will do! Giving up isn’t an option!

Starting on a termite trap 31.

 

I've been loving starting at the beginning of this thread. These pics are a few months old but I wanted to share what I'm working on. 31 Sedan trying my best to keep it 60's ish to the best of my liking. I'll post more pics of progress...already bobbed the rear of the frame and the front rails.

 

Nice sedan. I like the Chevy dash. Do you have any more pictures you can share? I am going to dive into the internal structure (steel) to replace the old rotten wood.

I finished the frame a little while ago. at least to my liking. This car hasn't been on the road since 68. the frame has been rode hard and put away very wet from all the years of hot rodding. I cut a 1/2 steel plate off the side that looked like at some point someone used a tractor blade to repair a frame crack. Fixed the frame and patched the wonky stuff. boxed 3/4 of it. I just need to pull all the suspension apart and grease everything before final install. Thankfully my body has been indoors for a very long time so the steel isn't bad and what wood is left inside is in pretty good shape although ill swap it all out for square tube. im tackling the body this week. have almost all the parts I need to get it on the road

 

Some forward thinking soul punched all these 3/8” holes on the inside of the rain gutters. Did they know 90 years later they’d be getting welded to the quarter skins?

 

Likely the nailheads rusted thru and left a 3/8 th hole . LOL

 

Please share as much as you can when you replace the wood with square tubing. I have a 34 3WC waiting, 50s drag car.

Jim, you have a '34 Chevy Master that I believe from your description is a '34 Master 4dr Sports Sedan. A picture of the backside would likely confirm that.

guess this means I'm in. I have really enjoyed reading the posts from the very first to very last but it seems really slow now.

 

Hey, I joined this club today. No termites yet and relatively solid wood. We're gonna start off with a pretty basic strip down of hood/fenders/etc, see traditional hop up parts (if any) exist for the inline 6 and enjoy it a while. Runs, drives, and stops but quite a bit of sediment in the bowl, gonna pull the rad and fuel tank and boil them out.

So this was the plan (and its a photoshop jobby from the HAMB) - a fenderless 34 sedan delivery made from an extremely rough 4 door Master. Opening back door and the side/rear windows filled in
