Hello. Welcome to a tech special from Mart's Garage.
Fords venerable Crab distributor. I take one apart and put it back together again. I share any little tips and care points along the way.
I hope this proves useful to anyone using this type of distributor.
I hope you like the new intro/outro segments. I had fun doing them. I got copyright strikes from the PIL music so have had to come up with something else.

I agree, Mart did an excellent how-to-do-it video. Can someone explain how the distributor vacuum brake works? Thanks.

    Thanks fellas.
The brake is just that. It rubs against the disc that is trying to advance as the revs go up. Low vacuum means the plunger pressure is not reduced by the vacuum pull, so the tendency of the disc to advance is resisted. High vacuum allows the plunger pressure to be reduced allowing the disc to advance.
With modern fuels there is not normally any peoblem with detonation so the plunger loading screw is normally backed off. I prefer too have a very slight drag to stabilise the disc.
