Will the factory auto behind Y block start in park ? My book doesn't state clearly if it should, only adjusting the switch to neutral ? More modern trans are usually park start. Thanks for any help. Gary
IIRC, they do start in park although it's been years since I owned one. I believe the adjustment to neutral is because if neutral's right, park automatically is, but doing to it park first doesn't mean neutral will automatically be right. Neutral is a 'tighter' adjustment.
I have it set to only start in neutral, will have a bit more of a fiddle with it tomorrow and see if I can fine tune it more. Thanks for the reply Crazy Steve
In 56 Fords and prior years the automatics were neutral start only. I think 58-up was the first year for both.
My 55 was all original, 68,000 miles when I got it. Neutral only. My first 57 was this way as well, all the others I owned were sticks.
Gidday Lee, had problems with the brake master cylinder, got it sleeved and ran out of holiday time. I think this switch is all I have left to do now ? Maybe this is how they roll, neutral and then decide which way you want to go ?
