I have a axle that I am looking at powder coating. The problem is it has stome rough spots in it where the old brackets were grinded off. What can I do to fill in the grind markings to make it smooth prior to powder coating?

eastwood company sells "bondo" that is for that exact purpose.

  3. For filling nicks and gouges I use a product called "Lab-metal" by a company named "Alvin". It can take the 400 degree heat required when powder coating.

I believe they have a website.

If you wanna get serious, fill with bronze rod using a tig or lead using a torch.

Does the Lab-metal cause any change in color of the powder coating? How does the Lab-metal hold up to the prep from the powder coater?

  7. I haven't noticed any color change. My powder coat guy had sandblasted my wheels before I applied the Lab-metal and then blasted them again (lightly) after that to make sure he had uniform surfaces (tooth) throughout.

I work at a metal shop and we use JB Weld. Never had a problem.
