I like everything about your car, and the new paint is just great. I especially like the fact that it is DRIVEABLE, in the real world. You're close enough I hope I get to see this great car. Going to the Drags?

  2. The last time I was in Tulsa with the 53 was to catch the reverend horton heat playin at Cains. I wanted to go to the one at Bricktown but missed it. I think that was in OKC, long ****in drive. The Rev rocks, and rocks hard.

I heard their drummer left and they got a new one. Hope the guy is better, it sure would be hard to be better than their old drummer.

I'm sure something like Starbird will get me to drive it that far again.

Keith and I were drag racing our 53's last night down Phoenix Ave. here in Fort Smith. When I punched it I got some gurgle, I might have some vacuum leaks still going on, or maybe vac adv going too far, or possibly carb issues. Not sure. It's one of those things I can't really diagnose because it only happens when I really step into it and I just really don't step into it that damn much. One of these days when I'm bored maybe I'll try timing first, then on to checking for vac leaks and ****... just get back in it and step into it each time and see if it's any better.

I gotta get that torque tube out and that joke of a 53 year old lawnmower transmission.

Winter project will most likely be, a new rear axle, hopefully a ford 9. A T5 ******. I'm going to use the truck 235 bell that has the pedal start. Those starter solenoids **** up a lotta juice so I'm more than happy to do away with the solenoid all together. Put a hefty notch in the back so I have more give and mount some skid plates. I've gotta get one those flame throwers too, my pipes were designed with flame throwers primarily in mind. I had em on the car before when they came out the back but not since I did this kinda lake style pipe thing. I'm gonna make a mount where I can screw in 2 propane bottles in the trunk and run lines to the pipes.

You gotta let me know if you're ever this way Pops, and anyone else for that matter.

  3. Colonel, suh,

I've gotta say that yours is the first early '50s Chev I've ever seen & really liked. Not usually my bag. I wouldn't change a thing. ('cept maybe the six, I'm a greazy drag racer myself so it has to terrify women & children just at idle :D . Maybe a BBC with the calliope Crower injectors for a vintage look, or old Enderle stacks. But sixes are cool, & different.) A little tuck and roll inside maybe? Makes me want to go find one.

I don't dig WWs too much, so I like it just the way it sits. Good deal!

There's something kinda disturbing about the other pic, maybe flashbacks to adolescence, puberty, & junior high.

BTW, that was one of the funnier SNL sketches of the last few years.

It IS low, it just doesn't look low because there aren't whitewalls to tuck into the fenderwells. I like the painted grill shell, hate the painted grill bar. But that's why we call 'em customs, he? Pleases the customer.

  8. Absolutely awesome cruising last night. Keith and I cruised our 53's last night all around here.. hit up the mall because Jami's chick wanted crabs. The jokes never stopped on that one. Parked in the mall's parking garage and set off every car alarm in there as we rumbled in.

I love that FS's major streets are all at least 4 lane if not 5 lane so we get to stay side by side a lot, rompin on it. I bet that looks awesome from a distance, sure we're going the speed limit (most of the time) but I bet it looks like two 50's cars racing each other. Maybe one a these days soon we'll boot out one of the ol ladies to take a picture of it.

Thanks a lot Aman and you're right, but I didn't go in ****y, I was really worried I was about to see a hundred new flaws on the body. Thank god I was wrong. I got a couple of drips and runs here and there, by no means a perfect paint job but I drive her every day so for as much as she's driven, I'm really happy. I mean I'm not worried about parking anywhere and people ****ing with it especially since it's only one color of paint and it's a color I have several gallons of so if **** happens, I can cover it quick and easy.

Oh and also Aman, Everyone knows Brittnay Daniels, especially after that whole "balls to the wall" thing LOL

Homespun, thanks a lot for the compliments. I know a lotta fellers don't like those stovebolts but I'm a huge fan. I dropped over 4 grand into that motor all so I can hot rod her around town and so she'll last ANOTHER 53 years. I coulda put in a BBC or two by now but man, I did what I love, and I love that little 235.

She's not clean, I **** at that, I'm more performance/engine and outside body focused. So my car looks like **** inside and my engine compartment is pretty dirty usually.

After this whole smoothed and shaved black thing, ya know I always thought it was just more work than it's worth but now I'm thinking about smoothing the front corners of the hood, and the bottom corner of the doors so it matches the smooth corner on the other side. When lines are all you have, lines mean everything. My doors close a little hard just so when closed I keep a straight body line. Prolly a lot of that antique rubber around there. I have new sitting on the shelf but just hate doing interior work.

Chili Phil you're right on with me man, I think it's low enough and you're right I think people would think it's a lot lower with some wide whites. You woulda ****ped your pants if you saw how perfect my center bar was. It made me cringe to take sandpaper to that chrome but I wanted nothing at all to distract from her ***y body and curves. I know it ticks off some but I like it, and it gave me the look I wanted. After that whole thing I've heard people ask if it's a Ford. One fellas said "1953?" I say "yeah.. awesome guess, most people don't get it right first try." Here is where he should have shut the **** up but instead he says "still got the original flathead in it?" I said "hahah yeah, sounds good huh, almost like one of them chevy inlines."

If I do the paint job I wanted to, which I'm sure I will eventually. The car is gonna get a thin coat of blue tinted pearl all over.. then on that center bar I'll probably metal flake it, and the dash too. Never flaked before so we'll see how it turns out on an old box or some s**** steel first.

Oh and the chevy style side mirror? All for look, absolutely useless with the rain guards on but I love the rain guards, makes the top look a lil lower, adds to the side stainless, and in the worst storms I can hang my arm out the window and barely get wet.

    I'm just chatty kathy today..

Anyway thanks a lot guys, I know it's not perfect, and it's not sitting on the ground or has a chrome grill like a lot of you need.. It's just my taste, my thing. Glad some of you like it.

You should just paint your existing tires!

Colonel, I think you need to be the one standing on the side of the road taking pictures. You're better with the camera and I look a hell of a lot hotter driving it than you do:D

**** it!!! You're just pissy because you know I'm right.

  14. I have thought about it. I have another set of wheels and pretty new tires I was gonna try it on but I don't know if I will or not. I'll prolly just go through coker. Good quality just costs an ***load.

  15. That better?

    yum

So ya fellers think I should round the hood corners out? I've been thinking about it a lot.

And the bottom corner of the doors, one is really rounded but the other is squared.. I think it's kind of a flaw in the body design. I've thought about changing it so they both match.

    This is the line now:
