Crosley's are very collectible. They were made by the Crosley Company in Cincinnatti, Ohio. The early engines had tin-sides. Crosley engines were used in many midget racers in the 50's.

Sears sold the Allstate..a re-branded Kaiser Henry J.

    Here's some Crosley info...

Crosley was made by the same people that made Crosley appliances, the car sold thru Sears was called Allstate and was the same as a Henry J.

Crosleys have a cult following and are worth something to the right guy, depending on what model it is. Let's see some pics. Is it a driver, or a junkyard find, or what? Would probably part out well if it's junk.

Theres an *** for every seat. Crosleys are pretty cool. They also made good parts doners to build midget race cars. I think the head was part of the block so they had no head gasket to blow. Anything can be cool, just use your imagination!

Their claim to fame was the first US built car with four wheel disk brakes. :)

  11. That's respectable.

  12. The sedan bodies were popular on our local dirt tracks back in the 60's and 70's.

This one rules......back in the early '80's while my Dad was building his old '27 RPU he shared shop space with this and some other L.A. area rods.

I unloaded next to the Crosley factory in Cincinatti a few years ago. The front entrance looks like one of their old radios...

A 47 Crosely Station wagon is one car I got claim to fame, when I lived in Phoenix a few years back.

They opened the front door for me and I drove it into the bar!!!!

  20. Yes

That is to say its cool or junk. They make neat little dragsters I'd take one if it were available but some folks don't like 'em a bit so it is a cool car or junk.

I always wondered what one would look like if you removed the front sheetmetal and replaced it with a hot rod grill shell.

Build the ch***is like that dragster one pictured with the wheels out front.

....but don't use the stock front sheetmetal. Leave the engine exposed....

    Know what I mean?

I bet it would be cool. The dimensions on the body seem right.

This has been done. Saw a snap shot in Street Rodder once of a car just like this. Also stumbled upon pics online of the car once. But DAMN if I can find any of them again. The car was black (I think) and done up like a little woody. Looked like the body was set down on a modified Model T street rod ch***is. Had a 32 grill shell and a SBC. Looked realy cool.

Growing up, one of my friend's father had a Crosley sedan. He used to roll it over on its side to work on the ch***is. I never saw him do it, but he claimed to take the engine into the house when it was real cold (Chicago) in the winter, it supposedly only took 10 minutes to remove/install and he could lift it out by himself. May be just BS??

This brings back memories, built in like 74/75 this car belongs to a friend of mine Dave Lukkari from Michigan, he moved to CA. in the late 80's and still has the car, He took the Ardun heads off and currently is running them on a 29 RPU Lakes Modifyed that has been in some early Rodders Journal ( it's the black one with the checkerboard firewall and the "ARNCEE" plate)
When I talked to him last month he was freshening up his extra pair of Ardun heads to put them back on the Crosley.

Another cute modification to the Crosley is to take the original engine out and put in a Ford V8 60. Just the right weight to hp, and you get to run a V8 in a small car. A Halibrand quick change in the back, same as in a midget racer, and you'll have quite a number.

From what I remember Dave was a really cool guy, he let me sit in the car once.........I loved the flamed interior. According to my Dad one day the car had a flat tire in the shop, one of the other guys tried to jack it up and slide it over......it came off the jack and messed up the front sheet metal. I dont ever remember seeing it after that.......that must have been about '84 or '85.

Crosleys are a bunch of fun. This is me when I was either 11 or 12. I had two engines a stock Crosley and a hopped up Hot Shot. Drove the wheels off of it and carried this photo around in my wallet to prove to my friends that I had a car at 11. Kept both engines and gave them to my nephew a few years ago-still sits-car looks pretty good but with the poor engineering it is any wonder I am still around. Used to throw gravel on the turns on my grandfather's property where we had an oval layout so you never had to touch the brakes thru the turns. Not tremendously fast but still great fun. -Jim
