A few more images from when I was on vacation. Dropped in to see a friend in Bunbury. Alan Wells is a great model builder, sign painter and artist. Here is a few of his more recent builds. Geoff aka whodaky

All great stuff guys! I really like that '36. Here's a question, I want to build a chopped and possibly channeled deuce 5 window with a full hood. What's a good kit to start with? Already chopped a plus!

Man I'm diggin that COE Whodaky and your buddies T-sedan is sweet too.
I haven't sat at the modeling bench since i turned it into the srtiping bench but here are some of my old projects. They are more like Art/modeling exercises. The "WOOD DAHLIA" I built in '96, It was raining and pops and i couldn't work. The only dry wood i could find were a couple of sawed off pieces of 2x4 so I glued them together and busted out the dremel. I made the wheels out of buttons and pinned the steering wheel, spotlights, headlights and wheel in the back with brass rod.
I built the other Sled out of Cermaic clay when I worked in a tile studio( around '95) I carved it out with my lunch spoon, glazed and fired it. I tried to give it a fade/flame job but the glazes we used were to high temp and ran into each other.
Wish I was still as motivated as I was back then.

Automotive Stud, the AMT '32 5 window kit Boyd Coddington American Hot Rod kit #38254. Don't worry about the big diameter wheels on the box, you can find something different. This kit is actually for the most part the old MPC American Graffiti coupe. Which reminds me you could find the American Graffiti model also. The body is nice and it is chopped in both these kits. Geoff aka whodaky

PS just read about the hood. the Graffiti coupe doesn't have a hood. the Coddington version does!

  7. Nice stuff guys! Here is my 1/64th custom called "Rat T". it is a bunch of parts mishmashed together from around the shop. Most notably the front chassis and engine are from the Altered "Orange Crate" Enjoy!

Thanks. I seem to remember a thread where someone had started on one of the boyd kits, but I can't find it.

How about 33-34 3 window already chopped?

I know what style I want to build, but I can't decide if I want to do a deuce 5 window or a 33-34 3 window. I like this, full hood, maybe some cycle fenders. You get the idea. I think I'm still leaning to the deuce...

Geoff, do you know what motor comes with the boyd '32?

Also, does anyone make a '35 Ford? I want to build a '35 cabrolet. I could use the 36 they make with a donor 35 grille and fenders. Then build the remaining '35 as a 36.

Automotive stud, there has never been a plastic kit of a '35 Ford done. However there is a diecast '35 sedan delivery that is available. You could use the grille from that!
The Boyd 5 window has a Chev in it, but not a very good one! geoff aka whodaky

I think I need a new camera...every time I take pictures with this one, they come out worse than the last batch. Finished up the bodywork and got this one in paint today. House of Kolor (ala Black Gold) True Blue Pearl over white. No clearcoat for this one either. Interior will be white with red accents.

What do you guys use to chop, section and channel these models back together and have them turn out so well? I'd love to try my hand at it as my models stay in the box because they are too bland.

Thanks for all the info Geoff. I thought I saw a '35 5 window. Any idea who made the delivery?

I picked up the boyd deuce, looks like it will lend itself well to my plans. It looks ugly on the box with no gas tank and fenders anyway. I usually favor the full fendered cars, but I have this urge to build a chopped and channeled job. I already dug out some wide whites and '53 ford caps out of my parts bin for it. Originally I wanted to do it in red primer, but I might do a dark bronze color instead.

Lots of great stuff guys. Coupe looks great fidgiter!

  18. I'll look into it but I think R&R Resin might be a good place to start. Type in Resin models on a serch and start shopping links there's some awesome ready to use chop jobs out there.

Oh boy, have you ever seen an R&R body in person? They are infmaously known for some of the worst resin castings out there. I have never used one, but have seen and held several. I have friends who tried to polish them into something useable, and its not worth the effort, they are too crude from the get go. More like half ass.

If you want a truly flawless casting, Relicas & Miniatures Co. of Md makes a 32 5 window that will go on the Revell-Monogram 32 (the one that was issued in the mid 90's) kit chassis. He has a stock height and chopped version. If the RMCoM name isnt a framiliar one, knowing that the HAMB's own Rikster did the pattern for it (as well as a ton of other RMCoM products) is enough to confirm the quality. RMCoM's resin looks, feels and works like kit plastic parts or better. Plus Norman's reputation is first rate, meaning when you order it, and he tells you when you will get it, that is when you will actually get it. He is a full time business, most resin casters are side jobs, and are SLOWWWWW.

Norman doesnt have a website, but he can send you a catalog, and he has a ton of parts for 32's, including really realistic done chassis, firewalls, hoods, grill shells, interiors, duvall windshields, and most of the patterns for the 32 stuff are by Rikster. He also does a ton of flathead stuff. Heres a link some friends did so Norman can have some of his stuff on the web.

Hey Figiter, I really like the blue ford. Were can I get a kit like that?

  21. Thanks for the redirect. I haven't purchased and resin kit because of the cost factor; for fear of exactly what you've refered to so it's nice to heare of a reputable company. I'm cheching RMCoMD out. Thanks \.
While I'm on, here's the detail work I did on the lower half of a "59 Caddy. Comments?

  22. That's really nice.
Gotta love those R/M rat Rod Wheels and Rims, Revell really got those kits right `back in the day.' I'm restoring an old issue of the 29 Sedan Delivery I made in the 80's I've used one of the Rat Rod P-up to bbuild 2 models, 1 Phone booth using the 29 frame & a flatty with a bed I sorced from an old Monogram kit, the roadster's on the R/M Duce frame w/ Chevy mouse engine. I'l have to shoot some Pictures and post them.

Ive been fortunate enough to hang out with some really great model builders for many years, and a lot of these guys buy tons of resin bodies, as they are released, just like we collect car parts. Ive had the oppertunity to see a lot of the products some of these companies are making without having to buy the products. Resin has a bade name in some parts of town, because of guys like R&R, Best Resin, and other hacks. Most resin casters use a tan/yellow resin that is very brittle, and stinks when you sand it. Both the resins they use, as well as the rubber for the molds are designed to set fast, to decrease production time, and the surface finish is grealy compromised. Most resin bodies are much thicker than plastic kit bodies, and have softer body lines and details, and lots of flash.

I have yet to find a resin caster that has resin like RMCoM. Normans resin is white, its not brittle, and sands nicely, and doesnt smell when you sand it. The lines are crisp and the sirface finnish is smooth and slick, just like plastic. He uses no mold release that you have to clean off. He makes detail parts down to 1/25th scale tire valve stems so detailed you need a magnifying glass to see the cap on it. Most resin casters cant successfuly get a door handle to look right on a body, which is much bigger than that valve stem.

Unfortunately he doesnt have a website. Hes not big on computers, and may never have one. You can email him, but he does most of his business the old fashined way, on the phone. Tell him I sent you, you will not be dissapointed.

Unique replica's did the '35 delivery. Did a quick search couldn't find a site.
It is red ith black fendrs done as a fire chief's car and has chrome wire wheels with wide whites!
The 5 window you are probably thinking about would be the AMT '36.
hope this helps Geoff aka whodkay
