I decided to ***emble 4 brake drums on my '32, do you think that I must use a brake booster or not ? Someones say that boosters are only needed with discs !
properly built brake system in either discs or drums will work flawlessly without any ***istance.. Tons better pedal feel also.. I don't like spongy pedals... My 56 has disc front, drum rear, great pedal feel, will throw you through the windshield.... Also check your pedal ratio... Low pedal ratio at 5:1 is alot of force for braking... 7:1 is more ideal for no power ***ist but more travel of your foot for the same force... So if you already have pedal setup mounted... Let that be your guide...You can increase master bore if your ratio is low and trying to run manual. A little bore size difference is a ton of difference in feel and work... Drums require small bore as they require more pressure than discs to operate. Discs require more volume so that's why disc master are always sized larger... Mixing and matching stuff in this is why so many brake systems down right **** or never work right... If your putting the master under the floor... Residual valves are a must... I recommend the Wilwood 2 circuit master... Great piece all in all... 3/4" will be about perfect for what you need... To set bias they have a manual proportion valve that I put into the rear brake lines.. You can dial your vehicle in so good with that its not funny.. The premade block style proportion valves **** in my opinion... Ive built about 15 brake systems like mentioned above, all still going strong, and work flawless...
i build em straight up as hot rods..power brakes is the only time i bend....its on a vacuum device...so im cool with that..
I have run with an under floor booster set up on my drum brake ,32 for 40 years. Old style brakes tend to require more pedal effort than modern cars, the booster reduces pedal effort a bit, and improves 'feel'.. ... Works for me.
Matter of preference We never used em where I used to work. Cars stopped just fine. When all the parts of the system match or work together properly, something magical happens.
