Can somebody help me?? A couple weeks ago I found a place that sold 27 lakester type fibergl*** bodies with hinged doors for 1695.00. They also had some with no doors for like 700.00. I wrote it down and now that I need to order one I can't find the web site again. Was I dreaming? If anybody knows of this please tell me. Thanks
Nope, I found that one. I even printed the page off and I can't find that. Their web site looked like they just photo copied a page from the catalog.
I think Old Dog Streetrods or something like that outta the St Louis area was advertising them in R&C. I remember the price and my dad picked up a flier at GG in Des Moines. He thought they were a pretty decent body.
Main Street and Old Dog are one in the same. One bought the other, I think... I have their catalog. I think it's pretty good stuff for the money. I called once and was impressed with the reception I got.
Gas Alley Streetrods: http://gasalleystreetrods.com/27lakesterbody.html Two opening doors---710 bucks.
Precision Fibergl*** has an excellent extended cab model A roadster pickup body. A friend of mine is building a lakes mod with it. I can send you some pics if you like. I think the body with doors hinged and latched is around 1200.00 dollers.
I hear you man, I prefer steel myself. I need this for a car I am building for someone. The body they brought me is steel on the inside, I think the bondo on the outside is holding it all together. It is cheaper for them to let me buy a gl*** body than to have me fix the steel one. I'm just trying to save them some money. They don't care if its gl*** or not.
Think about the extra structural integrity that has to go into a tub when you cut doors into it. If they don't open, It's as sturdy as a wash tub. Cut a square out of the side and you have one of those flimsy laundry baskets that the handles have torn out on. Big difference in the negineering required. I'm a firm believer in getting what you pay for. I think you can get a collection of old steel for a few hundred bucks or even a new gl*** tub, but by the time you have it built to last, is either one any less expensive than a $4500 body?
Let me add my $0.02... I have one of the MainStreet/OldDog 27T bodies ..bought it with the doors hinged & latched and floor installed ....It's a fairly decent body, not the best nor the worst .. Like any glas body that comes as a shell,I had to build a reinforcing structure inside..by the time I bought tubing (sq.& round) ,misc metal, fab'd pedal supports, dash reinforcements.. and some VERY EXPENSIVE glas to metal epoxy , I ended up spending a TON of money !!! Also leg room is at a premium..!!! The suggestion of starting with an extended cab steel RPU sounds like a better deal all around .... Oh well , live & learn......Stan
I have 2 Gl*** T bodies. The 26/27 is from Lion's Hot rods in McHenry, Il. 2 opening doors, a steel sub structure and $$ later, it is a good piece. The 23 replica is an MAS part. It is inexpensive, a bit thin, does not measure to be "square". Did I mention that it was cheap? To be fair, It is old with at least a few owners, so someone may have stored it poorly. Fibergl*** bodies need to be stored corectly or they can deform. Steel is cheaper. I had not heard of the HAMB nor had any luck finding a steel body so the gl*** was purchased. There were three very nice steel bodies for much less than a grand each during the following summer.
Hee....Its not even a parts car. I was able to save the headlights and the foot shaped gas pedal so there were at least 3 parts on the new car that were on the original car they brought me.
