Hello everyone. New to the site. I'm building my first model A so cut me some slack if I'm asking a stupid question . Trying to make pattern for my quarter gl***. I have regulators and panels that regulators screw to. Also have new track for bottom of gl***s, garnish moldings , anti rattlers and new felt. The channel that holds the felt in only comes up to the bottom of the window opening. Unlike the door channels that run all the way up to the top of door. My question is am I missing a bracket or channel for upper portion of window gl*** that will keep it flopping around? Right now there is nothing to hold the felt in place for the upper portion Thanks for any help/advice
It should run all the way to the top. Mine is chopped big time so maybe I didn’t notice them being short. Could be two pieces. Top and bottom.
The felt channel runs all the way to the top. It has a little hook, varies by year and model, that holds the channel bottom. The channel is held in by the upper "U" shaped portion of the garnish. There is no other connection above the bottom of the window opening. Gluing the channel to the opening sides is a good idea and I highly recommend it..Use Permatex black super strong weather strip adhesive. Mine is held in only by the glue until I can find the garnish moldings. They are made of unobtainium and go for mucho bucks when you can find them.
Don't forget to glue the rubber seal to the top of the opening. Macs auto parts.com has the kits for this and there are several sites that have the quarter gl***. Vintage Gl*** comes to mind but there are others. Good luck........ Glenn
My felt window runs for the rear quarter windows extend full length top to bottom. At bottom there is a T-shaped metal tab that traps into a keyhole at bottom of the metal body channel. At top there is a metal hook that will hook into a hole at top of the body channel. To install, the bottom T goes in first and can slide up enough in the keyhole slot enough to hook the run in at the top, trapping the run in position. (If top is chopped, you must shorten the run and re-rivet one hook.) Know that to install the gl***, it must go in to the channel at the bottom first, before you slide and hook the runs into place. It’s an all at once operation and a PIA. FYI, the attached, showing gl*** dimension, is from a May 1928 service bulletin. Yours may vary, make a template.
