    You showed the ''before & after'' pics, but the ''during'' photo shows the shop cat is the same color as cast iron!

    Put rubber gloves on before you handle that ****** or take your ***embled pictures from much farther away. It would break my heart to see fingerprints on there.;)

    Actually that black paint is already hard as a rock. Touching will not leave any prints. I painted it input shaft down, let it dry, and laid it down to horizontal. With all that handling if marks could ever be left on it they would already be there.

    This is where/how I painted it. You can see here that I had bolts in all threaded holes to keep paint out of the threads. Also shifting shafts were taped off. There was a spray can top/lid over the output shaft. It's sitting between two sawhorses with 2x6's across them (and input shaft pointing downward and between the 2x6's) and paper laid down to keep paint off of stuff I didn't want paint on. I left it there 'til the paint was cured.

    HOWEVER; thanx for reaching out and for your concern. I'm always open to suggestions about how to do things better or quicker.
