Are Bengels up and running again? I read here recently that Bob had p***ed away and the business was being (re)relocated by his family but it wasn't clear whether they were yet back in production. I got a model A seat from Bob and spent a couple of hours chewing the fat with him a few years back. I have a Glide seat in my roadster BTW. Bob told me he pitched his stuff as cheaper than Glide but with certain improvements despite obvious similarities (ha, its a seat for crissakes!!) All made sense and the quality is fine. Bengals is painted. Glide is powder coated, not that you can see any of it! There wasn't a 32 seat available at the time. I'd have no hesitation in using a Bengels seat. Are they in production though? Chris Chris
It appears Bengels might still be out of business. Their Facebook page shows a move to Missouri in 2019 but no way to contact them other than by and old e-mail contact form. The phone number listed is not working?
The first one ( @V8 Bob ) seems to have a more vertical back on it than most, - is it comfortable ? Or is the upper back really soft foam ? Would be curious to know how tall you are as it looks like a 6’ tall person would be squashed in it. Looks really nice though ! Thanks
Clem, the seat is a Glide with the foam that comes with it. I am 6'/190 lbs and am comfortable in the seat, although I sometimes need some lower back support on long trips. Thanks for the compliment!
I was fortunate to receive the LeBaron '32 Roadster kit before they closed shop. I used 1/2" birch plywood and foam from a local supplier. I'm 6'2" and needed the seat back as far as possible. It is comfortable and could use more padding. The plywood is doubled up to reinforce the body and the seat back has t-nuts that make removal simple with access from the trunk.
