We’ve got the pedals pretty well done, and got the steering pretty well done, just gotta mount the brake pedal/master cylinder assembly and put the steering shaft braces on. The weather was nice today though so we rolled the chassis out and placed the body back on. After we finish the pedals and steering well mount the body, tilt the nose, and start body work and paint. The body is going to get significantly notched for the headers, but it won’t be terrible. I also picked up the paint for the car today, it’s going to be bright boss ford orange. With the dark magnesium wheels it should look really similar to the studebaker coupe in this photo.

Yeah it’s mustang grabber orange, it should be bright and stand out without being overbearing. I wanted it to be a bright, non metallic color, or black. And where this body was chopped in the 60s, and fiberglass is from the 60s, it’s pretty rough and it would take forever to make it good enough for gloss black.

  6. Put a joint in that steering shaft and make it collapseable. (is that a word even). If you hit the wall you don't want it to spear your nice suite and seat, you in between.

It’ll be mounted with hose clamps, and it is thin wall chromoly. in case of crash it will push/bend out of the way. This is a very conventional steering setup, nhra legal and used by thousands of drag cars for years. I also have the steering column as far away from me as possible. For it to hit me it would have to move roughly 20” or my harnesses would have to fail, either way it would be a crash that would significantly injure me regardless.

Here’s a picture of how my 55 is, the steering shaft runs through a chromoly tube, attached to a half piece of chromoly tubing that fits the OD, and then held with hose clamps. 0D3AA002-68B4-4D8C-947F-7E48CBFC3AFB.jpeg

the steering is finished up, and ready to start mounting the body. Got slowed down this week with covid so I haven’t made it in the shop since last Sunday until this morning really. Starting to feel a little better but still easily drained and tired. Gonna try to get back at it this week, get the body mounted and start mounting the doors and front end.

Looking good! Good luck with the recovery. The fatigue was the worst part for me.

Thanks, yeah the fatigue is what I’m struggling with now, I think I’ve about got it licked though. Hopefully I’ll be able to get back to work before the new year too.

Zak, do you think you'll make the Reynolds, GA race in March? I'd sure like to see it there.

If everyone on here would, I’d really appreciate it if y’all will keep my dad Ron in your prayers. He’s been hit pretty hard with covid and I’ve been running him food and visiting him at the hospital. He’s showing some improvements and should get to come home in a couple days, but it’s gonna be a while for recovery before he’s 100% again. This may slow the Anglia build down a bit but most important thing is getting my racing partner back 100% right now.

Take care of your dad and also take care of yourself. He needs your strength and love more than you realize, and when he gets home it’s going to be a journey for him back to health. Your dad is a rare father, I was in awe watching you two race at Shady Side last April. I hope you understand what I’m trying to say, please forgive me if I’m not clear. Dads are the best!

Sending Healing Prayers to Your Dad and Your Family.

  27. Best wishes! My son had it the week before Xmas and was quarantined upstairs. I camped out on the main floor. I brought him Nyquil, Mucinex, vitamins, a lot of water and Gatorade. And anything he cared to eat. Mainly burritos and Hot Pockets. He tested negative on the 24th.

  28. Zak, sorry to hear of your and Ron’s sickness. Hang in there and follow whatever the Doc says to do. This Covid thing can be a real jerk.
I’m just now getting my game back after a bout with it last winter.
The Anglia is looking good…if you make it to Shadyside in ‘22 I’d like to get some photos.

Take care and best wishes to you and your Dad in the new year.
