This '36 was "refurbished" in the '80s when the owner inherited it from his uncle. The owner p***ed on and his daughter sold it via "sealed bids". It has been sitting, untouched for the past 13 years! I was hoping it would end up in my garage, but I found out this morning I didn't get it. I thought I had bid agressively, but it went way higher than I thought it was worth. Wanna guess what it brought? (Hopefully my pictures will work. It's my first try!) Thanks, Al
Those are genuine Wisconsin rust holes in the fenders. The body tub was great though, even the tail pan. I thought I had made a good bid, but I guess I'm just cheap! It brought just over $20,000! Oh well, maybe I'll run across another someday. Al
$20k? That's it? Hey, that has the same heater I put in my '36 this past winter! Awesome. What the hell is that wheel cover under the '36 caps?
$20k is about the max I'd pay for that particular example- with fresh chrome on the bumpers, no rust in the fenders (or oxidation, or whatever that is), and a cleaned out interior I'd go higher. Great looking car
I was just at my parents place tonight. The gal next doors boyfriend has a 36 3 window that is a finished rod. It's an older car thats been updated, but still runs a y-block/stick combo. It's a candy brandywine color, has cragar ss wheels on it. It looks like a pretty decent car. The best part of the story is it has sat outside this place all summer. There's a poleshed, but they leave the 36 sitting outside, along with a 69 SS 396/4 speed chevelle...so the kids HORSES can be inside! I don't think they have a clue what either car is worth!
reminds me of the 36 drop top my dads friend pulled outta a barn in wis last year.... perfect body, late 50's rod, small nailhead with 3x2's stuff like that, he dumped gas in the center carb and it fired, brake fluid in and they worked, drove it alittle and doubled his money...
36's seem to be the flavor as of late, not that they were not always popular but they seem to be comming into their own now. In my opinion, 36's have the nicest lines of all the prewar models, esp the front grille.
I guess I'm showing my age. I can't get my head around paying $20k to $30k, for a car that needs everything. Hasn't run in 13 years, old repaint, rust holes in fenders, etc. Don't get me wrong, I love '36s, especially three windows. I'm finishing up a two door right now. I guess I'll have to stop whinning about the cost of building it! This just confirms what my wife has know all along . . .I'm a cheap ***! Al
