    MST3K rocks!

Joel and a few others were on tour recently. They have a stage show like MST3K, but without the bots.

John "Doc" Mulkey was from Wichita Falls. I saw his roadster race many times, usually at Caddo Mills. A cousin, Buddy Boren and I were on Central Expressway one day, when Mulkey p***ed us, heading north. As the car was race-only and trailered, we looked at each other and said, "Wha-a-a?" We quickly found out that a stock engine was swapped in and the car had been rented from Doc for the movie. A family friend, Gordon McLendon, was making the movie, and when the call went out to our school (St. Marks - his son went there) for extras, I couldn't do it since my grades were not that great at the time. Buddy and a few other friends - and their cars - were there, however, mostly featured in the barn dance scenes. Besides owning KLIF Radio, Gordon had the largest film studio between New York City and L.A. and - a few cheesy movies notwithstanding - really cemented Dallas as a movie and commercial filming center.

Not to dispute you here BUT,,John Mulkey was a farmer,He lived in Waxahachie until his death. He NEVER lived in Wichita Falls..In a previous post here on this thread,I give some more info on this car...I also worked on an old roadster that Buddy Boren owned when he was living on Beverly Dr. in Highland Park..Many of the cars in this movie were mostly local cars..also as I explain in earlier post here.
    Ps.Old top g***er,I had many friends that attended StMarks too...maybe you knew them,,Marc Richmon,Jim Richardson,John McMurray,Ronnie Mitchell>???????

Yeah, you're absolutely right, John was from Waxahachie - had Wichita Falls on my mind for some reason. I spent many an hour in that '32 roadster of Buddy's. Always wondered what happened to it, and I always forgot to ask him whenever I'd come back to Dallas and we'd get together. I've got a great color shot I made of Buddy behind the wheel in it which I might post sometime. I don't remember any of the names you mentioned. I was there from '57-'59, with Foster Yancey, Kenny Wright, Pete Kennedy, and some other car guys.

  10. MST3K is back on with its own streaming channel on Pluto TV. This movie is currently in rotation. I have caught it a few times already.

Wasn't there a remake made of that movie made in Franklin, Indiana?
