Can anyone tell me the axle shaft where the rear axle bearing goes dimension ? I'm putting 1940 brakes on my 31 model a , my A axle checks 2.065 , my bearing # 68-1225-A checks 2.095 , seems pretty slopy to me , What do you think ? Vern
I have '40 brakes on my '29 A-V8. When I put them on I didn't have any way to measure the bearing to axle size and I couldn't find the info I needed.. I just stuck 'em on there without the seal and gave a little effort to wiggle them and they seemed okay. I've been driving it for a couple of years and haven't noticed any problems at all. I ordered new seals and was asked if it had been converted to hydraulic brakes. I said yes. The seals came and they so much smaller I couldn't believe it. The package said they were what I expected but the seals were not even close. My best advice is to do as I did. Put the hub w/bearing, no seal on the the axle, snug it up and see if you can detect any up/down, side to side movement. Use the '40 seals and bearings. Don't forget the fiber washer that goes under the axle nut.
