Last year in mid winter I picked up two 27 Whippet, basket cases.
One was a 4 door sedan and the other was a 27 frame cut roadster with no rear body.
I got home and immediately poster photos on HAMB. On my way home I picked up the rear body of a 27 Ford to put it together. Right away everybody explained that the beautiful flowing fenders were not Whippets. I researched and found they were the popular Ford fenders from about 1929. I then decided I had Parts for two Whippets and a Ford. I already had a real nice custom Ford rolling frame complete with engine , transmission and drive chain. I started on the fenders and running boards and since the boards had been cut and otherwise abused it took me several months to reweld extended running boards, patch and straighten the fenders , fill, fair and primer.
Along the way I found another coupe body that was very rough but much more than what I had. I had to do 11 weld in patch panels and cut 6” out of the coupe body to shorten it to become a custom roadster. All of the patches and body shortening are almost ready for filling and fairing. I also had to put horseshoe loop around the rear coil suspension.
My plan now is to finish the Ford hot rod. Then go to the 27 Whippet roadster and with minimal work turn it into a speedster. I have a complete rolling chassis with steering, engine , transmission, suspension, steering , front cowls, radiator surround, engine side cowls , and much more. I will build a rear body just like the old speedsters that guys raced back in the day. The Speedster will not take too much time compared to the Ford. Since everything is there it will take breakdown clean, paint and replacement, plus the rear body. Most of the old rear bodies were pretty simple builds and not done like show cars.
Then my long term project will be the 27 Whippet sedan. I included a photo of what has slowed me up on the hot rod this week. I drove my sons Z06 last Thursday and it seemed a little Squirrley when I drove out of our drive. We had some heavy frost on the cars and I blamed it on road Ice. As I entered the interstate I accelerated to blind in with the 70 mph traffic. As soon as I got into the driving lane the car broke loose into a complete 360 degree spin leaving the road at a 45 degree angle. The Traction control or ABS did nothing to help. ihit a huge pine tree at close to highway speed in a bit of a slide. The drivers side front tire contacted the tree ripping it completely off and putting the car in a brief pancake clockwise spin, with the car facing east in my original direction with the read of the car less than 10’ from the tree. At first it was diagnosed as a total, but yesterday o felt good enough to inspect and so far it looks like no structural frame damage and only will require wheel, a arms, a wheel, sway bar and shock, plus rebuilding the front end. The Z06 is carbon fiber and that’s what I have been doing for the past 20 years. 3. I have a friend with a Whippet Sedan. Each time that I see it somewhere like a car show, I tell him when I bump into him that I saw his Whippet. It just doesn't sound right when I say that.:rolleyes:

I counted how many lives I have used up and believe it or not I am up to 19 and no real injuries. After getting the car home we did a code reading and it had a flat run flat code, no ABS, and a right rear speed sensor code rendering no traction control. The run flat is only good up to 55 and I was probably a little over 70, with black ice, no traction control and an unknown flat tire. I hit the tree at close to full highway speed. I am suffering from a severe whiplash but it’s getting better every day. Thanks for your concern

At least you don’t say his big Whippet. I used to run and sometimes would meet another runner and they would say, I did recognize you with your clothes on. That would get everyone attention!

No insurance other than liability. That why I will fix it myself. The main damage to the zBette is the fron left suspension got cleanly ripped off. The reasy is pretty easy other than cosmetics. I can repair the carbon fiber left fender as I have been building high tech competitions for the past 25 years
